Kosmas Switches From No To Yes On Health Care

Rep. Suzanne Kosmas (D-FL)

Another one: Rep. Suzanne Kosmas (D-FL), who voted no in November, has announced that she will vote for health care reform.

In an interview with the Orlando Sentinel, Kosmas cited the CBO scores as part of her reason for switching. She also said the final legislation does more for small businesses than the first House bill.

“I’m going to vote for health care reform,” she said. “I know this is not a perfect bill. But in the scheme of things, it provides the best options and the best opportunities for my constituents.”

Kosmas follows Reps. John Boccieri and Allen Boyd, who both announced today they would switch their votes to yes.

Kosmas met with President Obama last week for about 20 minutes, according to the paper. Kosmas, who represents the district where the Kennedy Space Center is located, said she spoke to him about the NASA space shuttle program. If the program is closed, as Obama plans to do, 9,000 people could lose their jobs.

“I would not have been doing my job had I let that opportunity go by without advocating for my position there,” she said. She added that she called Obama today to tell him about her decision.

When TPMDC’s Brian Beutler caught up with her after a House vote this afternoon, she was reluctant to talk but said she was still reviewing the legislation and would make a final determination “soon.”
