Sarah Palin just campaigned for Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), the man who made her a national star when he selected her as his running mate for vice president in 2008 -- their first appearance together since the 2008 campaign ended.
McCain is being opposed in the Republican primary by former Rep. J.D. Hayworth, who is seeking to mobilize Tea Party movement support by casting McCain as an establishment moderate Republican. But Palin, herself a beloved figure among Tea Partiers, declared: "Everyone here today supporting John McCain, we are all part of that Tea Party movement."
Palin also joked: "When you talk about that Tea Party movement, some would claim John was there at that first Tea Party movement. (Crowd laughs. John McCain laughs.) And I'm kidding. But I've gotta remind people, before there were protests in the street or marches on Capitol Hill, there was the maverick fighting for us."
Palin touted McCain's opposition to the Obama administration's key programs -- especially the newly-passed health care law, with Palin tying Obama to Fidel Castro.
"Hey by the way, I see today that Fidel Castro likes ObamaCare, but we don't like ObamaCare. Doesn't that kinda tell you something?" Palin said. "When it came to this, John fought against a government takeover of one-sixth of our economy, and he told the president that transparency in the legislative process shouldn't be just another campaign promise, and in Obama's case just another campaign promise that's been broken."
Palin also countered Hayworth's argument that the state needs new leadership, after 24 years of McCain in the Senate. "We've got huge challenges to overcome in this country. And yes, we need these new Republicans," said Palin. "We need this new blood coming into the system and new party officials, and those who are willing to stand up and speak out for commonsense conservative solutions. But we also need statesmen and heroes like John McCain in there, to help us get through these challenging times in these coming years."
Palin also dismissed reports in the media about violence and threats against Democratic politicians over health care, calling it a "ginned-up controversy about us, common-sense conservatives, inciting violence because we happen to oppose some of the things in the Obama administration."
"But this B.S. coming from the lame-stream media lately about us inciting violence, don't let the conversation be diverted," said Palin. "Don't let a distraction like that get you off track. Keep fighting hard for these candidates who are all about the commonsense conservative solutions that we need."
It's interesting to note that Palin herself has been implicated in these controversies, after she posted an online message calling for fundraising efforts against the 20 House Democrats who voted for the health care bill, and who come from districts carried by the McCain-Palin ticket in 2008. What alarmed some people was the use of cross-hair imagery on a map of the country, with the targets placed over each of the key districts. As she said on Twitter: "Commonsense Conservatives & lovers of America: "Don't Retreat, Instead - RELOAD!"
When McCain spoke, he responded to President Obama's speech yesterday, in which Obama defied Republicans to campaign on a platform of repealing the health care reform law, in light of the various benefits included within it. "And my attitude is, 'Go for it,'" Obama said.
McCain declared: "We're gonna 'go for it,' an we're gonna repeal this bill. We're gonna stop this spending."
McCain also said: "Our answer is, yes, we're gonna 'go for it,' and we're gonna get it, and we're gonna restore the government back to the people of this country, because this is a right-of-center nation, and this president is governing from the left, and it will not stand."

I am not surprised, but was rather disappointed to see this. Once again, Ms. P is chasing the spotlight, money and power, rather than having any personal principles or direction.
From a democratic strategy perspective, right now the teabaggers are the biggest threat to Republican resurgence because of their potential to create Hoffman-styled defeats, and Palin currently is the undisputed favorite of that crowd.
Although it's hard to tell what the Tea Party really stands for, they seem to throw their support for the angriest anti-establishment ultra-conservative with the most simplistic ideology over establishment Republicans or pragmatism. I would rather have seen Palin support McCain's opponent, and continue to wear the Tea Party's mantle of Joan of Alaska, leading them to further immolation.
Her decision may create conflict and may even diminish her influence and support amongst the teabaggers, which is too bad. Nothing would be better for the democrats than for Palin to remain a major power broker, if not candidate up to the 2012 presidential election.
I have no doubt about her ability to flame out, and take a good chunk of the Republican base down with her, but backing the old guy who was seen as "too moderate and willing to work across the aisle" (even though that was mostly a myth) may help to reduce her too quickly to smoldering ashes rather than firebrand when it would be most useful/self-destructive.

CAUGHT BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA
In order to gain the political power they've enjoyed for decades, Republican moderates and fiscal conservatives made a pact with the devil (faux Christians, bigots, racists, sexists and misanthropes) to achieve the numbers they needed to defeat Democrats. They made a strategic decision to manipulate and exploit the ignorance, fears and hatreds of dysfunctional and vulnerable voters in order to win elections rather than lose them by being intellectually and morally honest.
Today, those who conspired with the devil are caught between wanting to disassociate themselves with and casting out the demons they empowered and the karmic reality that they don't have the numbers to hold on to or regain power without continuing to accept and "advocate" the immoral values, hypocrisies and corruptions that are dividing and destroying their party.
The survival of today's shrinking Republican Party is so dependent on extremism that they have no significant power left WITH or WITHOUT the support of America's increasingly pernicious lunatic fringe.
The idiom "caught between the devil and the deep blue sea" is appropriate as Republicans are facing the dilemma of choosing between two equally undesirable alternatives that both result in Republican impotence in mainstream American politics. They are suffering the consequences of their treachery.
Their irresponsible propping up of George W. Bush cost them their credibility, and the insanities of teabaggers, birthers and deathers incited by the sociopathic dishonesty of Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity and O’Reilly are costing them their viability.

She can't touch Obama with her intellect, can't defend any of her statements with actual facts and has no real credible ideas or alternatives, so she goes with BIG GOVERNMENT and the President is not credible because he has a telepromter. I don't like to make blanket statements and see them as a one of the major problems we have in this country, but anyone who takes this woman seriously is instantly non credible. Today, he, at least figuratively, had to lick the leather of the woman who played no small role in his presidential defeat because she has become such a cult figure on the lunatic right that, if McCain can't woo them away from JD, his senate career is over.

It will interesting to see how the Tea Partiers swallow this. They love to claim their independence to the GOP and say they have no leader, just grassroots. They love to say they are not the Republican'ts lapdog, but let's just see if they disobey Master Palin. If they are truly an independent movement, now is their time to take a stand. I'm just glad Obama is finally waking up to realize that the Republicans do not want a black president to succeed. They will try to counter every single thing he does. So the Dems need to get out the steam roller and get to work. There is no such thing as bipartisanship when you're dealing with racists. When the next white Dem prez takes office, then maybe, but not now, no way. They are openly tolerant of white supremacists, KKK, neo nazis, secessionists, and radical militia. That's all the proof we need.

Sad to see because I had a level of respect for him, although I never really considered voting for him. "But this B.S. coming from the lame-stream media lately about us inciting violence, don't let the conversation be diverted," said Palin. "Don't let a distraction like that get you off track."
Palin characterizes threats and violence "a distraction"? How this moron gets away with reducing a serious matter to a mere distraction - one caused by THEIR OWN - is truly incredible.
If there were a more appropriate description of her as a terrorist leader, I don't know what it would be. Hear me out, here. She puts her self square on the level with terrorist leaders who explain away their violent actions as a means to an end, calls them a distraction. Her implicit denial that those physical threats to succumb to their desires amounts to terrorism is pure lunatic. It wholly and precisely does fit. In the respect that America is a system that is known for non-violent change, she must not believe in America. So much for her patriotism.
Country First? How about America First. But then, they have to substitute "country" for "America" 'cause if you say country, you address the "good Americans" while if you were to say America, you include citizens that are not "real Americans" - about half of which don't buy her or her phony schtick.
Unbelievable.

Wonder if it would still be a distraction if these were threats against Republican's in Congress? Wonder what she would say if Dems said that wanted to put Palin in the firing line like they said about Pelosi. How bout the shoe on the other foot. That would be an interesting exercise on her Facebook page. Every single frightwing attack is written verbatim except she is always the target. Here's an idea, have a map and everywhere Palin goes, there is crosshairs over her. Gee, wonder if that distraction would get her panties in a wad. She may have to unfriend you. Gotta love the smell of hypocrisy in the morning. Oh wait that Sarah Palin's perfume.

Palin is dressed up in her dominatrix leather and Pappy Hokum has the look of an old man looking for a spanking.

Kiss of death Sarah has McCain and Hoffman(NY23rd) already on her record. This reunited duo should achieve the same success as in their last joint effort.

Reported on in the Arizona Daily Star. They claim 4000 were present. But one commenter, "Moti D." said:
And he/she is correct! The event was held in Thurber Hall as documented here. The capacity is documented on the PCFG website.
So they're running around claiming 4000 showed up, but maybe 2500 did.
Which leads into the best snark, which was by "Jerry E." who noted:
Ah, was one of those pigs wearing lipstick?

Yeah, this is where it gets confusing. And as Georgians, we would drink wine really, so this tea thing comes as a wild card.

He must be in big damn trouble to bring the kiss of death with him. I guess he forgot how the country rejected her before when he tried to dump her on us.

This is why the humanities are so important to save on college campuses. The "human condition" is truly weird sometimes and somebody's gotta study it to make sure we don't all succumb to "this" human condition.
