The new Field Poll finds Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) in a tough race this year, with the results within the margin of error against her three Republican challengers.
Former Rep. Tom Campbell has a statistically insignificant edge of 44%-43% over Boxer, within the ±3.7% margin of error. Boxer has a similarly narrow 45%-44% advantage over former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, and Boxer leads state Rep. Chuck DeVore by 45%-41%. Back in January, Boxer led Campbell by 48%-38%, led Fiorina by 50%-35%, and led DeVore by 51%-34%.
The TPM Poll average has Boxer leading Campbell by 44.2%-42.9%, Boxer leading Fiorina by 46.7%-41.7%, and Boxer ahead of DeVore by 46.7%-40.5%.
In the Republican primary, Campbell is in first place with 28%, followed by Fiorina with 22%, and DeVore with 9%, plus 41% who are undecided. In January, Campbell had 30%, Fiorina 25%, and DeVore 6%.
From the pollster’s analysis: “Last January among registered voters deemed likely to vote in the November election, Boxer was viewed more favorably than unfavorably by 48% to 39% margin. However, the current survey finds that her image has suffered over the past two months, with more voters now viewing her negatively (51%) than positively (38%).”
