Tea Partiers Call Lewis 'N****r', Frank 'F****t', At Capitol Hill Protest

Tea partiers and other anti-health care activists are known to get rowdy, but today's protest on Capitol Hill--the day before the House is set to vote on historic health care legislation--went beyond the usual chanting and controversial signs, and veered into ugly bigotry and intimidation.

Civil rights hero Rep. John Lewis (D-GA) and fellow Congressional Black Caucus member Andre Carson (D-IN) related a particularly jarring encounter with a large crowd of protesters screaming "kill the bill"... and punctuating their chants with the word "nigger."

Standing next to Lewis, emerging from a Democratic caucus meeting with President Obama, Carson said people in the crowd yelled, "kill the bill and then the N-word" several times, while he and Lewis were exiting the Cannon House office building.

"People have been just downright mean," Lewis added.

And that wasn't an isolated incident. Early this afternoon, standing outside a Democratic whip meeting in the Longworth House office building, I watched Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) make his way out the door, en route to the neighboring Rayburn building. As he rounded the corner toward the exit, wading through a huge crowd of tea partiers and other health care protesters, an elderly white man screamed "Barney, you faggot"--a line that caused dozens of his confederates to erupt in laughter.

After that incident, Capitol police threatened to expel the protesters from the building, but were outnumbered and quickly overwhelmed. Tea party protesters equipped with high-end video cameras were summoned to film the encounter and the officers ultimately relented.

After the caucus meeting, TPMDC's Evan McMorris-Santoro caught up with Frank, who reflected on the incident.

"I'm disappointed at a unwillingness to be just civil," Frank said. "[T]he objection to the health care bill has become a proxy for other sentiments."

"Obviously there are perfectly reasonable people that are against this, but the people out there today on the whole--many of them were hateful and abusive," Frank added.

Asked by TPMDC whether today's protesters were more hateful than at other rallies, Frank took issue with party leaders for aligning themselves with the movement.

I do think the leaders of the movement, and this was true of some of the Republicans last year, that they think they are benefiting from this rancor. I mean there are a couple who--you know, Michele Bachmann's rhetoric is inflamatory as well as wholly baseless. And I think there are people there, a few that encourage it.

"If this was my cause, and I saw this angry group yelling and shouting and being so abusive to people, I would ask them to please stop it," Frank concluded. "I think they do more harm than good."

Shortly thereafter, the same group of people surrounded Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) as he entered a first-floor elevator. Above the cacophony, I heard one man call Waxman a "crook" and a "liar."

"This is incredible," House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-SC) told reporters of the slurs. "It's shocking to me." He said he hadn't heard such vitriol since March 15, 1960 when he was protesting segregation laws that forced him to sit in the back of buses. "A lot of us have been saying for a long time that much of this, much of this, is not about health care at all," Clyburn said. "I think a lot of those people today demonstrated this is not about health care."

What is it about, a reporter asked?

"It's about trying to extend a basic fundamental right to people who are less powerful."

Last I checked, the likes of me provided Obama with the worst Presidental approval rating for time in office EVER. Also, the last I checked, the latest elections had the likes of me booting Deeds, Corzine and Coakley (she was running for Dead Man Kennedy's seat!)out of ofice. And the last I checked, two in three of the likes of me dissapproved of ObamaCare, recognizing that it is a sham! That would put YOU in the super-minority.

As to the issue of deportation, you think things are heating up now, wait until you losers try to legalize the illegals. I can hardly wait.

...and now they are constantly culturally cornered by that stark reality, slowly realizing that it is both too late to prevent and despite their desperate birtherism, there is no way to reverse it.

But beware the cornered beast, the more desperate they become, the more likely we will see some sort of violence flare up and their membership fall off to the most angry among them.

As their numbers distill down to their lowest common denominators, we will no doubt find prejudice and intolerance as the last real refuge for these scoundrels, all wrapped up in Old Glory and singing "The Star Spangled Banner" even as they claw away at the very foundations of our personal freedoms.

I really don't believe you are sincere, Rich, you KNOW as well as the rest of us this was a bunch of beefed-up baggers, and that they are perfectly capable of spitting the kinds of epithets they are accused of.

Why do you feel compelled to act as their advocate?

You aren't going to convince anyone here that teabaggers aren't capable of prejudice and bigotry, we've been following their "progress" closely and one would have to be sincerely stupid not to read between some of their lines, some of us grew up hearing those dogwhistles and still hear them from a better perspective.

You seem desperate to protect some delusional honor-bound "conservative fellowship" from facing repercussions because of what some of the political neanderthals among you did. But you are really hooked at the hip.

"It's not a danger," Steele told NBC's "Meet the Press on Sunday." "It's certainly not a reflection of the movement or the Republican Party when you have idiots out there saying stupid things."

What explanation would be necessary? No one supports that. Thank you for publicizing that the leadership in opposition to health care do not support racism or homo phobia. I'm glad it's not necessary for me to point that out.

If what Lewis and Franks claim happened- did happen, it's an appalling thing.

I'm only pointing out that there were plenty of cameras and recording devices around recording the entire event and yet none of them have captured this.

Odd, don't you think?

Stop robbing the commonwealth just to add another zero to your name, better pay your people well, and give up that Bush percentage you are now so addicted to, for the public good, instead complaining about it like a spoiled child protecting his "candy."

Respect the middle class, "Rich," no doubt, unless you hearken back to old southern slave money, (which would explain a great deal of your prejudice towards "other" classes) then it is more than likely the middle class made you rich in the first place.

The above is the most sensible comment (other than my own of course) that I've read on this site. I hope others remember that the next time they're fed the idea that the wealthy want to "destroy" the middle class.

Incidentally, I'm not wealthy, the picture you see is me and I bought that sweater at the GoodWill. I'm poor but I'm not a thief. Government sponsored wealth transfer and class envy is a sucker's game and what I hate about it the most is all of my friends and (maybe) nice guys like you who are being cheated lied to and taken advantage by Rich "liberal" Democrats like Pelosi, Kerry, Feinstein and the late Ted Kennedy who have more money than God, didn't earn any of it and are absolutely laughing at you for being taken in by them. This is completely off topic but seriously, Do you really think the likes of the people I've just named, give a rats ass about you?? Really?? Cal Gal, I believe, in all sincerity that you are mistaken. I've become reluctant to defend the politicians you list because I've grown very suspicious of ALL incumbents but I tend to trust people more who tell me the things I don't want to hear- a little more than people who tell me things (they think) I do. I'm sure you would summarize the contrasting messages differently but I'm going to share my summary with you anyway, just for fun. Dick Armey, just to pick one will say "you are the solution to most of your problems, if you want more medical care, it is up to you to find a way to become more productive so you can afford it" Now I'll agree(as does Armey)that there are systemic changes we can make to lower the cost for everybody but ULTIMATELY, it is up to ME to pay for healthcare or ANY OTHER goods and services I need and it is up to everybody else (grown up)to do the same.

The "Pelosi" message is,"never mind your pretty head about the cost, vote for me and we'll just get SOMEONE ELSE to pay the cost of health care for you."

Now while I suppose I would PREFER to believe that "someone else" ("mommy" "daddy" "the evil rich people" "government") ANYBODY BUT ME should pay for my healthcare, deep down inside I know that such is not the case. So even though I may not like what Dick Armey is telling me as much as what Nancy Pelosi is telling me, I tend to trust what Armey says a little more. So, I'm OK with Armey not "caring" about me personally-because that's really not a part of his message. I don't have to believe that Armey "wuvs" me to trust what he says. On the other hand it is absolutely essential that I believe that Pelosi "wuvs" me because it very much is a part of her song and dance. Understand?--and I just don't happen to believe that a several hundred millionaire, cavier-eating-botox-sucking-private-jet-flying-to-the-global-warming -elitist like Pelosi gives me or anyone else but her fellow elitist the slightest thought. Understand?

Hope to see you on the other side (of this debate)someday.

Of course that's not what Nancy says, but when I saw farther down the thread that you're a Randian, your comments finally made "sense," in the sense that you're a follower of a fictional economics.

I'm more of a Donne fan myself: "No man is an island."

BTW, I have a brother with Down Syndrome, and no way in the world he can become "more productive."

I guess you and Ayn think he should just live on the streets and beg or something? Or should I become my brother's keeper? I don't think Ayn would say that THAT was in MY self interest, do you?

The world is not the clockwork orange she, and you, think it is. It is messy, it is fractal, it is chaotic, and no "rationalist" theory has any longlasting application in it.

"the wealthy want to "destroy" the middle class."

No, they just want so much of their disposable income, the middle class can't consume any more because the wealthy class won't loose the dogs of wages upon the waiting world. They want to loan it to us as credit instead.

Who do you speak for then, if you are not "one of them?"

"They" surely appreciate your wasting your efforts defending them to intelligent liberals who aren't going to believe you anyway. They laugh at you behind your back, they have more respect for their middle-class adversaries than they do for their middle class advocates.

I believe that journalists reported Franks' and Lewis' claims not the event itself. If I'm mistaken about that, how sad that these journalists had misplaced their cameras and recording devices. (wink) But I absolutely agree that if there is any proof it will probably show itself on YouTube or elsewhere. Absent proof, isn't it reasonable to at least question a report that would be, let's face it, "self serving"? I think we can also agree that there are racists and homophobes on many sides of many arguments. That the world's full of imperfect people isn't something that should determine whether an idea is good or bad. Let's stipulate for the moment, that some people, opposed to an ever-expanding state, are also racists or homophobes. Does that invalidate the idea of being in opposition to an ever expanding state? My second question is, do you believe that a majority of people opposed to an ever expanding state are racists and homophobes. You have been selected for a random test to see if there is any "reason" on this site. By all means feel free to respond with vitriol and ridicule or otherwise--your choice. Repeat this is only a test...

You might have had a point, but the Republicans BEGAN their debate against health care reform using lies and scurrilous name calling to whip up the sadly misinformed into a baseless fury.

Remember "death panels"? Remember "totalitarian"? I heard that one yesterday.

Pray tell me, how can a fiercely debated, democratically passed piece of legistation be "totalitarian"? It may be unwise, it may be unconstitutional (although I think this legislation is neither), but how can it be "totalitarian"?

The best thing that could happen for entrepreneurs and small businesses, and for revitalization of creativity in our economy, would to be to break the link between employing people and paying for their health care. This legislation does not do that. Single payer would. But this is the best we can get right now toward that goal. And it is a first step to a more rational health care for ALL Americans.

By the way, remember the words "the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" ... if you can't get health care, you can lose your life. I truly think that health care is not only a HUMAN right, but an AMERICAN right as well.

George Bush was "democratically elected" twice. Have you or anyone else on this blog ever referred to anything he ever did or any policy he ever supported as "totalitarian"?

If you try to come on this blog and say "no", then your punishment will be a "long answer".

Nope, never did refer to him as a "totalitarian." A fascist, yes, but not all fascists HAVE to be totalitarian. You might look it up. Just a hint, it's sort of like "dictator." You can have them on the right, you can have them on the left, but they are NOT democratic.

Oh, and BTW, even IF I had call Dim Son a "totalitarian," what does that have to do with whether the health care reform bill is "totalitarian."

Saying "you said it about Bush" is not a rhetorical argument. It's a cheap whine.

C'mon Rich didn't the supreme court have to intercede in 2000 then make a verdict to stop counting votes on expediancy. It seems to me that the 2000 vote was in violation to our voting laws.

By the way, remember the words "the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" ... if you can't get health care, you can lose your life. I truly think that health care is not only a HUMAN right, but an AMERICAN right as well.

We'll make death illegal in the next health care bill. That should take care of it.

One can get the facts, or one can stick with feigned-ignorance belief --

"I believe that journalists reported Franks' and Lewis' claims not the event itself."

The media reported a range of facts, including the assertions of Lewis' and Franks' (you leave out the Congressman who was spit on for being black) ASSOCIATES. And including their own WITNESSING of the incidents.

And now the GOP and Tea Party are publicly ADMITTING the incidents occurred by trying to "distance" themselves from themselves concerning same.

You might try truth instead of lying: at very least it results in less foul-smelling breath.

No.

The author of the article specifically said he heard it in Barney Frank's case:

Early this afternoon, standing outside a Democratic whip meeting in the Longworth House office building, I watched Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) make his way out the door, en route to the neighboring Rayburn building. As he rounded the corner toward the exit, wading through a huge crowd of tea partiers and other health care protesters, an elderly white man screamed "Barney, you faggot"--a line that caused dozens of his confederates to erupt in laughter.

You've been accused of being disingenuous in this thread, but I withheld judgment. However, you just proved you either didn't read the article or you didn't understand it. In either case, it speaks directly to your credibility.

Funny, but if you look at the major MSM network web sites, only two mention the incident in sub-headings and, of course, Fux camoflages it in a sub-heading titled "Emotions run high...".
The MSM has had top "reporters" up every prominent player's butt to get news of this legislation's failure. Now when some of the top people are assaulted by a bunch of bigots, shouldn't there be a lot more reporting of it.

They think all progressives are wimpy, stupid, unarmed idiots, who won't fight for their beliefs. Little do they know, there are millions of progressives and liberals who love this nation (and what it once stood for), and will fight to prevent it from falling into the hands of fascist wingers like the Tea Party Nuts. Some of us hearing impaired like myself are unable to hear it. If anyone who can hear the epithets reported to have been spoken, would be kind enough to note how many seconds into the recording they can hear these epithets,I would then be able to listen more carefully so that maybe I could hear them I sure would appreciate anyone's help on this. You're right on the money here Max.

But sadly many of our Democratic friends don't get it. For the same reason you cannot "reason" with say a Grizzly Bear, it is idiotic to try and reason with the Republicans of today. They are irrational and aren't here to "reason". Their sole purpose is to grab all the power they can and use it wantonly for whatever suits their fancy. They don't give two shits about the good of the country or any of that other malarky. And it isn't as though they make a secret of it either. The stupidity of Democrats wanting to play parlor games with these barbarians is maddening. These people mean to wreck the nation in order to hold power. It's just that simple. We don't need to debate them we need to fight them. We need to fight fire with fire instead of looking on incrddulously and their indecorous behavior. I think most Democrats around the country know this but they are waiting for their leaders to get a clue. Between Obama, Reid and Pelosi they have yet to assemble even the first clue.

That inept Obama who reached out to the other side but pushed ahead with his/Democratic priorities in face of their stonewall objections.

Did I say one word about facing reality? No, I did not. But you don't hesitate to accuse me of it, then blame me for it.

Let's talk about ineptitude: Republicans may be vile, but they know how to pass legislation. Obama caved on single payer with virtually no opposition. He caved on public option when a few opponents raised an objection. The current bill contains a huge give-away to insurance companies.

A public option is crucial. And he didn't even try.

I have Multiple Sclerosis. I would have no insurance if not for the state-sponsored public option here in Oklahoma. It is very restrictive, and they are trying to take it away from me. As long as I dot every i and cross every t I can keep it. But I can't earn too much money or get a good job or I lose it.

This bill should have had a public option in it. I am not saying Obama would have been successful if he had tried to include it, but we will never know since he didn't try.

I never even implied I thought Obama was the messiah. The idea never entered my head. But you don't mind claiming I do believe it, and claiming that is the source of my disappointment, and blaming me for that belief. That is very Republican of you.

Does this come as any sort of surprise to anyone?

These people have been wanting to scream N****R!!!!! since Obama got the Democratic nomination and it's their racism that gives such "white heat" (pardon me I couldn't resist)energy to their idiotic and irrational teabagging bullshit. Racism with this crowd goes hand in hand with the sort of juvenile homophobia they displayed toward Barney Frank as well.

Unfortunately, our President's mollycoddling bipartisanship fantasy only encourages these morons and their Republican leaders. These crackers need to get their asses whooped (metaphorically) in a very public way. It's the only thing they understand. As long as our leaders like Obama refuse to get in the ring and specifically kick their asses, they will only continue to spin out of control and please note, this isn't a fire that burns itself out. The only way to stop it is to stomp it out and smother it once and for all. There's no nicing these assholes to death. Doesn't work that way.

No. You misunderstand. Humiliating them on an issue will have no impact on them.

These people have to be beaten into dust, publicly denounced, declared the losers they are, and renounced by civil society. They need to be put in their place, not on healthcare, but put in their place period. The beast was chained up for years after the New Deal locked them away but it has gotten loose again and until it is made crystal clear that this sort of racist, homophobic, hooliganism is shunned in our nation they will continue and keep getting more and more extreme.

These are not law abiding citizens who happen to hold an opposing point of view. They are brown shirts waiting to happen and they aren't being very subtle about it either. These people hold the Constitution in contempt, they are the shock troops for the aughoritarian party in the US. They do not believe in equality before the law, they do not believe in the rule of law. They believe in white supremacy and a twisted, 18th century vision of America.

These are the ranks from which arise organizations like the Klan and there is a history of real and ghastly violence from the racist right wing fringe. That is who we're dealing with here.

Bush put a significant damper on protest by rigorously limiting the access of protesters to publicly visible sites relegating them instead to protest zones. His actions were, in my view often unConstitutional, amounting to an infringement of the right to peaceable assemble and petition the government.

Obama, by fawning on those politicians who are attempting to knife him politically, almost wears a 'kick me' sign. What is meant to be civility from strength is read by certain types of authoritarians as weakness.

It is not necessary to allow rowdy behavior -- the Constitutional guarantees run to peaceable assembly. If the tea baggers behave like a mob, they should be treated like a mob. Maybe then they would learn to control their own behavior.

March 21, 2010 1:57 PM    in reply to jenesq

I don't read the above comments as blaming the victim. Obama's leadership - and let me be clear, I view it as true leadership to engage one's enemy in a civil and forthright manner, even when you have no obligation to do so - is so jarring for folks on the right that expected him to act like they would (imposing unilateral, extreme action) that they have been unable or unwilling to see that he's being honest about his intentions. So they believe every fantastic conspiracy (Death Panels, Retraining camps, disarming white people, etc.) they hear, because it is actually easier for them to accept this rather than believing the "other" is acting with decency and openness. So some folks on the left react to this ridiculousness by opining that since the right is going to reject anything Obama does anyways, he might as well get his money's worth and actually act like Bush did, only on the left. The leaders of both the Hindu and Muslim factions under Gandhi, the more extreme elements of the peace movements in Israel who thought Rabin was "weak", and the Nation of Islam/Black Panthers/more hardline student movements involved with civil rights who thought MLK was too complicit with the white power structure all made similar comments - "any means necessary" was better to them than constant marching and taking beatings without delivering any in return.

I supported Obama and still do because he isn't a left wing version of Bush insisting on a radical left agenda. I respect his efforts at transforming the debate, and recognize that the ever shriller anger on the right is the natural response to his conduct. But I also understand the frustration of people who are more concerned with short term policy outcomes than long term legacies, and that seems to be what folks are expressing here.

Personally, I hope Obama keeps searching for consensus but ultimately insisting on change for the better of all Americans. My only fear is that like Lincoln, MLK, Gandhi, Rabin and Sadat (throw in Harvey Milk, JFK and RFK too, probably) before him, the most reasonable but insistant man seeking transformation will become too tempting a target for someone who only sees change as a challenge to their way of life. The prevelance of firearms references and threats of violence at these Tea Party rallies are much more frightening than the naked homophobia and racism, because while the latter is ugly, the former if acted upon would be a horrible tragedy.

It sounds like you're saying that his attempt at legislative bipartisanship has somehow enabled racism. That just doesn't make sense at best and, is unnuanced at worst. Who better to define the perpetrators than the perpetrators themselves? They've either violated hat crime laws or are allowed to say that shit because they have the freedom of speech to do so. But if you are talking about going outside of the law in some sort of caveman style vigilante justice then I'd say that's no better than showing up to a rally with an assault rifle.

No offense to you but, DUUUUH!! That's what the whole thing is about.

What I find so sad is watching the media tip-toe around what the Tea Party Movement is really about. It’s not about taxes. It’s not about healthcare. It’s all about racism. It’s whites that are angry that we have a black president. Period.

They have to create things to get angry about. About how the federal government has raised their taxes (it hasn’t. In fact, they got a tax cut). About how Obama wants to take their guns. About how Obama wants to ban sport fishing. Obama is a Muslim. Obama wasn’t born in this country. etc., etc.

It’s about race. When you hear Rush Limbaugh say that HCR is “reparations”, I mean, what else do you need to hear?

They see White Privilege being lessened and the playing field evening out and they scream “I want my country back! I’m scared!”

Noone should be shocked when you see these people unhinged like they were today.

Plus, you have to realize that on average, American's are both dumber and greedier than other "civilized" people. Was just watching a documentary about public transportation as a way to revitalize Detroit, and they covered the Acela, the fast train in Spain.

The Spanish people invested in high-speed rail in 1992 and it has so transformed their economy that cities are now angling to get it. Every city it passes through has a boon in growth and industry.

But here, we've been pussy footing around for that same period of time and don't yet have one single high-speed line, because our politicians don't think long term, they thing until the very next elections.

So sad we are so uncivilized.

But then I saw how ugly many lower class white folks reacted to the election of Obama.

Now we're seeing protesters behaving like the crowd outside Little Rock High School in 1957 -- the year I was born.

So it's sad to say but race relations haven't progressed much in my entire lifetime and I was just too blind to see it.

The absolutely WORST thing about it is they are NOT the ones who've been losing out since Obama won. They are the ones who LOST out under Bush, and the ones the Democrats are hiring to help.

But their racism has made them vulnerable to the reactionary right's scare mongering and scapegoating of President Obama.

"I want my country back ..." Well, so do I. I want it back from the greedy oligarchs to whom the Bush Administration kowtowed for 8 years. I want it back from the Wall Street "bankers" who paid themselves huge bonuses to take unsafe, unwise, and unreasonable risk. And the more risk the bigger the rewards they paid themselves. I want it back from the health insurance companies who have us by the "short hairs," because once you actually USE your insurance, you've got yourself a "pre-existing condition" and will NEVER, EVER be able to get insurance from a different company.

But the tea baggers want to get their country back from the black man, who cares how much it costs them.

I picked the wrong year to give up politics, that's for sure. From now until November it will be really interesting to see if the scare the Republicans have thrown into the sheeple will endure, or if it will slowly diminish as in a week or a month or six months their memory fades and they say, "health care? Wasn't that a big issue a while back? Well, nothing has changed for me, so I'm not sure what all the kerfluffle was about."

The racists hate will endure, but the misguided 35% or so who didn't like "the bill" because they heard it was big, bloated, a government takeover, socialism, blah blah blan ... the "independent" voters who don't care enough to really figure out which party really represents them ... they won't remember this at all in November.

Or if they do, they'll remember the hate they saw spewing from the Tea Baggers, and will go "Ugh. Those people were SO mean and shouted SO loud. I just don't like them very much. I don't really have much in common with them. I just go to work, and come home and take care of my family. My country? It seems OK. Jobs are hard to get, and the banks won't loan me money for my business, but other than that, everything seems to be going OK, and in fact improving since disaster of late 2008."

That line needs to come from the grassroots. They need to be shamed by society, not punished by the government (which would only incite them further). That means that we all need to speak up in our personal lives. During the campaign, I lost a lot of longtime friends who showed their latent racism because I called them on it (send me a photo of Barack Obama shining Sarah Palin's shoes and I'll let loose with what I think!)

These people need to experience disapproval and rejection in their everyday lives...that should be the natural consequence of racism and racist behavior. That is the only way to change people.

MLK used a very disciplined process of non-violent resistance: It was the only means he had available. Obama has all the powers of the executive branch of the government. Acting as though he were relatively powerless is unnecessary and dangerous.

Further, MLK confronted racists directly and told them they were morally wrong. He didn't tell them gently that he thought they had a point and maybe a compromise could be worked out.

Letting a mob work itself up is simply dangerous.

I don't blame people attacked by vicious dogs but I also recognize the value of taking precautions and that certain means of reacting in that situation are more effective than others.

Being convicted in court of disorderly behavior is one way people of this description can be deterred.

Where the F is the media to call them out? Apparently the media are beginning to to report this. Can't say that the media has made much of an effort to trace the corporate masters of both the tea baggers and the Rethuglicans.

Where the F is the Left to call them out on this? Here.

The experts on the matter approved of Bill Clinton on race:

Bill Clinton has a special bond with blacks, a relationship that fueled his decision to move his post presidential office to Harlem. When his presidency ended in January 2001, Clinton's approval rating was eight-seven percent of African Americans and just 45 percent of whites viewed Clinton favorably. Part of Clinton's backing by African Americans has to do with the fact that, though he was reared in the still-often-racist South, some of his most prominent friends were black. He filled the senior ranks of his administration with black officials, stood up in favor of affirmative-action programs (when Republicans sought to dismantle them), by discussing racial issues repeatedly, publicly, and demonstrating his prodigious intellect.

From African American Registry

Their opinion of George Bush was different:

President Bush's favorable ratings among blacks were the lowest on record for any recent president, as 13.3 percent viewed him favorably. Eighty percent saw him unfavorably.

Bush should have been pressured even more on race but the country was distracted by 9/11, the Iraq War and concerns about whether we were going to remain a democracy in the face of Republican cheating.

I couldn't disagree more. Precisely BECAUSE of Obama's race, he's limited what he can do. Change needs to occur from within.

Remember the professor Gates controversy? Remember how the media stated matter of factly how Obama didn't have a choice, he could NOT be seen crying racism, and the minute he starts arguing along such lines that it's a losing issue for him? Remember how close he came to firing up a shitstorm simply by calling the officer's actions 'stupid' even though he was simply going by all the media reports that had implied the same thing so far? Remember how just this one line sidetracked all the subsequent conversations after the national appeal on all the major networks went to absolute waste during the post address press conference?

Or how the media has pointed out how he could not accuse his critics of racism, since once he does he becomes a Jesse Jackson clone of "angry black man charging racism" which would ignite the powder keg of controversy with charges of racism and reverse racism?

What you're claiming is ludicrous.

I didn't say he should reproach their racism. I said he should see that the laws against disorderly conduct are enforced. How these people were allowed to behave is an outrage on a par with the invasion of that reception and equally unsafe.

I certainly agree that our society needs to rebuke the racism of the tea baggers and that is most effectively done by society at large.

We just have to put up with their ugliness for a little while longer.

And we haven't even seen them swing into widespread violence yet. I'm afraid that's the next step. I wouldn't be surprised to see one of them attempt to assassinate a political leader or commentator. The ALWAYS resort to violence.

Yes, but they say it 'allegedly' happened, not that it did. Also, take a read at the comments about it. 19 out of 20 don't believe it actually happened, but rather that it's made up to make them look bad.

FYI, as someone who has protested *for* reform in a targeted district in NY, I have seen the teabaggers in action. I have personally heard racial epithets being hurled at some of my fellow demonstrators, and I have been called a nazi, socialist and a communist. The level of vitriol with these folks is really up there.

There are also two of them that live in my development and I know them personally. They hate their neighbors who are black, Indian and Muslim. They also worry that we have too many illegal immigrants, while still being happy to pick them up on the corner when they need help with yardwork. In other words, a bunch of upper middle class racists.

We need some good epithets of our own. "Cracker" doesn't cut the mustard. Nazi is accurate, but it's diminished by being inaptly used by them. "No, YOU'RE the Nazi. YOU'RE the Nazi" doesn't really have a lot going for it.

Maybe we don't need actual insults and can just use facts."

"Brainwashed" "Stupid" "Fool" "Blockhead" "Spittlehead" (ooo, there's a good one)

Then there in my head is the voice of Al Franken when he was on Air America shouting "LIAH" "You're a LIAH!"

Then just for fun, we could ad "Pants on FIAH!"

Freeing health care coverage from employers will be a boon to both individuals AND businesses, and will allow people with, for instance, high blood pressure, to quit their cubicle jobs and really pursue their entrepreneur dreams.

Protest is one thing...and what is happening in the halls of congress is not that one thing. It is harassment pure and simple. And the R's, and whomever else is responsible for this mob (Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh?), need to be held accountable.

They don't believe that government has a role in solving national problems because they believe that government is the problem. They think we're better off if we just dismantle government.

In the form of tax breaks, everyone is responsible for buying your own health care, your own retirement security, your own child care, your own schools, your own private security forces, your own roads, your own levees.

It is called the Ownership Society, in Washington. But historically there's been another term for it; it's called Social Darwinism. The notion that every man and woman is out for him or herself.

It's a bracing idea; the idea that you're on your own. But there's just one problem, it doesn't work. It ignores our history. Yes, our greatness as a nation is dependent on self-reliance and individual initiative, and a belief in the free market. But it's also dependent on our mutual regard for each other. Our sense that we have a stake in each other's success. That everybody should have a shot at
opportunity.

What the hell?

After that incident, Capitol police threatened to expel the protesters from the building, but were outnumbered and quickly overwhelmed. Tea party protesters equipped with high-end video cameras were summoned to film the encounter and the officers ultimately relented.

If this is true, there should be an immediate investigation of the Capitol Police and why they failed to act here and why the were so unprepared to handle the situation. When the protestors have been using the word "kill" and the word "slaughter" (as a verb), it's a major failure by Capitol Police to not have adequate security coverage, this weekend in particular. For goodness sake, I live in NYC and see police with machine guns regularly at places like Penn Station, the Time Warner Center, and even Lincoln Center (just last night, BTW), and you are telling me the Capitol Police aren't prepared to handle a group of bigots and racists at the US Capitol Complex?

Not that I don't agree wholeheartedly -- I find it horrifying that after right-wingers brought firearms to an Obama rally and they accused Nancy Pelosi of treason, the Capitol Police apparently couldn't deal with a "protest" that could easily have turned even uglier than it was -- but you know if the Tea Partiers were arrested they'd just take that as further validation about the "fascist" government.

How can anyone claim that Obama's attempts at bipartisanship were "mollycoddling" and he really should have "kicked ass" right from the start ??

Wake up and smell the latte, folks: Obama is the Sidney Poitier of Presidents !

He can't just HOLD the toughest job in the world .... it doesn't matter he took office right when America hit its lowest point in three generations ..... and the Rethugs can stonewall and belittle him all they want.

Obama knows that if doesn't somehow rise above these impossible conditions, he won't just go down in history as our first African-American President.

He'll also be the LAST one for a very, VERY long time.

And how would these morons have reacted if right off the bat Obama started "kicking ass" the way G.W. "Great White" Bush did?

1. Faux News would have screamed it was "PROOF Obama IS a Muslim Extremist!!!" . . .

2. The racist kooks would have started going this berserk over a year ago . . .

3. By now, their level of violence would make this outburst look like a high school pep rally.

Funny: CNN.come reports five out of 200 anti-war protesters were arrested today in DC, but says nothing about Tea Party "slurs", for which actual evidence (as opposed to pure hearsay) is absent.

How many tea partiers have been arrested at their many rallies, including the one with more than 100,000 in Washington????

Hmmm....???

and Funny: wasn't a black man beaten up by SEIU thugs at one of the early Town Hall rallies?

And funny: if Health Care is a "fundamental right", it's the first one in American history that is to be imposed on people, with fines and imprisonment if they refuse to exercise it!

You folks are an example of the Kakistocracy, aka "The Rule of the Stupids"

I just saw this video of the psychos trying to intimidate Rep. John Lewis. He's such a stalwart figure, and I love how he simply walks through them like they're the extremist freaks that they are, unworthy of his attention or energy.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPoJGNhWB-s&feature=player_embedded

"It doesn't make me nervous as all," the congressman said, when asked how the mob-like atmosphere made him feel. "In fact, as I said to one heckler, I am the hardest person in the world to intimidate, so they better go somewhere else."

Indeed.

John Lewis isn't going to let some racist assholes intimidate him -- compared to the beating he endured at Selma marching for justice, this was nothing. This is not a "movement". The President gets them all worked up not because he's black, but that he's an educated smooth talking black man who also happens to be the POTUS. He's a threat. Look up the definition of hearsay -- you clearly are unable to differentiate it from eyewitness evidence.

No, YOU look it up: hearsay's a "non-judicial statement offered as evidence to prove the truth of the matter stated therein".

That's a working legal definition, but the ordinary term is "uncorroborated statements offered as fact". As in:

"Carson said people in the crowd yelled, "kill the bill and then the N-word" several times, while he and Lewis were exiting the Cannon House office building."

THAT's a person telling the reporter what he claims others said.
That's pure hearsay, friend. The reporter is NOT an eyewitness to the event.

And if anyone can hear the N-word in that video I'll eat my hat.

You referenced "these events' and the reporter was himself an eyewitness to two of them. You can't read.

Secondly, the Lewis and Carson reports of what they themselves witnessed corroborate each other. They are credible witnesses.

Your response that nobody caught it on tape is lame and given that people did in fact catch it on tape laughable.

Snork!

First, no one who doesn't own a car is forced to buy auto insurance. People who ride the NY subways aren't forced to pay the fares for those living in Chicago, which is analogous to what Obamacare forces on people?

Second, are you implying that auto insurance is a constitutional right? Or are you just a dum!ass.

Third, auto insurance is to ensure that if you injure someone else or his property, that the latter is made whole. If you're injured in an accident that's your fault, you don't get anything.

"Last I checked, the likes of me provided Obama with the worst Presidental approval rating for time in office EVER."

Last I checked the Gallup Polls (it's on the side of tpm, beside the usual comedy Rassmusen poll) has him at 47 approval/disapproval

Before 9/11 G W Bush was at 30% approval. Ooops

Rassmusen had McCain in touch with Obama a week before his landslide defeat. Its effectively a joke poll. Experianced poll watches add 5% to the Democrats in a Rasmussen poll. Yu will also notice the total lack of undecided in the Rasmussen poll. Any undecided are added to the Repulican count. Simple, effective at fooling you losers.

As for the other rlections you site, funny that the exit polls stated that those were not in fact referendums on Obama, AND that Scott was elected into Kennedys seat as a protest vote at the lack of a public option. In short they wanted a more strident health care reform, not that they didn't want health care reform.

But hey, cling to selective straws my good man.

Oh, please, you are inflating incidents out of all proportion to what actually happened.

In the incident at the polling place in Philadelphia, there were two guys, not three, both in New Black Panther uniforms, only one of whom had, not a baseball bat, but a nightstick. The other was actually a poll watcher and lived in the building in which the polling place was located. (My recollection from the time is that the precinct was majority black.) The police were called, and the man with the nightstick left the scene peacefully. He had been there for about one hour.

No, the guy should not have been there with a nightstick, and no, neither of them should probably have been wearing Black Panther uniforms. But they were hardly the menace that you have portrayed.

As cynical as it is, one of the most inciteful political quotes I've heard came from the late Lee Atwater. He said, "You start out in 1954 by saying, "N****r, n****r, n*****r." By 1968 you can't say "n****r"—that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states' rights and all that stuff. You're getting so abstract now [that] you're talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you're talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites. And subconsciously maybe that is part of it. I'm not saying that. But I'm saying that if it is getting that abstract, and that coded, that we are doing away with the racial problem one way or the other. You follow me—because obviously sitting around saying, "We want to cut this," is much more abstract than even the busing thing, and a hell of a lot more abstract than "N****r, n****r."

I think the T-Party's resort to overt racism is a good omen. It signals that the coded language of conservatism that has dominated political discourse for the last 40 years is dying. How many more election cycles can the Southern Strategy really last in a country that has elected a black president?

If anyone had a legitimate reason for being part of this group, then basking in the light of this group's behavior would surely make an educated decent person want to distance themselves from these people. Those that stay must feel that these people are their peers; under-educated, bigoted, mean, small people that have been raised in conditions of ignorance. These people bring shame to their country. Protesting and assembly are American rights. Hate, racism, and bigotry, reflect on the perpetrator, not the object of the demonstration.

The first part you said was clearly an example of a racist comment (you didn't give a link or anything, so I'll just take your word for it), but I'm confused about the cartoon link because I didn't really see any racial overtones (could've been there, but I didn't see it). I'm not sure about what you are getting at. If you are an anti-racism crusader trying to convince right and left that racism still exists in our society on both sides of the aisle, I commend you, and I agree with your basic point. But, for some reason that doesn't seem to be your point. Call me crazy, but it seems like you are trying to excuse what some random right-wing racist people are saying.

The reference in the cartoon is to a scene from the movie "Gone With the Wind". Melanie Wilkes goes into labor as Sherman's army arrives in Atlanta. The doctor is nowhere to be found in the confusion, and Scarlett turns her maid Prissy, a feckless young slave who had earlier claimed to be an expert midwife, and tells her she'll have to manage without the doctor, but that Scarlett will help her. Prissy screams and dissolves into tears, confessing, "Lawsy, we got to have a doctor. I don' know nuthin' 'bout birthin' babies!"

I don't remember precisely what Condoleezza Rice had said about the aluminum tubes that were held up as solid evidence that Saddam Hussein was pursuing nuclear weapons, but the original Bush line was that there was no question that the tubes were meant to be used to process uranium, and I'm sure that was Rice's position at the time, too. After that claim fell apart and it became pretty evident that tubes of the same dimensions had been used for fairly ordinary rockets, she evidently tried to walk back her initial claims.

Racist? I don't know if it was intended that way, but I think that's certainly the way it comes across.

Danziger is not a liberal, by the way, and I don't know that his cartoon has been embraced by the liberal community.

Hmmmmmm. No big reveal here. Everyone already knew there were hard core racial and discriminatory undertones native to the Tea Party.

You hear the N and F words (among many, many other obscenities) hurled at their protests all the time.

Tea Party. KKK. White Supremacists. Aryan Brotherhood. It’s all the part of the same.

If George Bush was pushing the HIR Bill the dynamic would be completely different. But because it’s Barack Obama......well, you get it I'm sure.

Look. Extremists and Racists will always be with us. We just have to keep moving forward. Regardless.

Lewis and Franks, among others, are doing the right thing by trying to stay rooted in the moral high ground. Direct engagement with people that are obvious racists on the eve of the most important vote in 3 generations wouldn't have done anyone any good.

Plouffe:

If Karl and a lot of Republicans want to call the election already, they ought to break out that 'Mission Accomplished' banner.

Rove:

That's cheesy, David. ... You should not denigrate the mission of the USS Abraham Lincoln.

Well now, that's a sure sign of desperation, jerk. The GOP has been lying pathologically throughout this entire process. They're the ones spewing the hate by the boatload. Cowards? How 'bout taking a good hard look at the groups aligning themselves with the GOP position. Instead of making an honest buck, they have to rely on predatory practices to go unchallenged by the government. Well, those days are over, for the most part. And there's more to come.

If there's any smacking to be had, it's pretty clear that you are the one on the receiving end of it with your wails of protest and loss of composure (I'm being generous in figuring you had any to begin with).

"The GOP has been lying pathologically throughout this entire process."

Actually, you might well replace "pathologically" with "professionally", ever since the book-cookers took over their party, Republicans are proud of their deceptions.

Now that the bigots and the violent are taking over at the teabagger level, (it is all they have left) it is just a matter of time before the sane remnant has to find anther party, or give up their claim on civility.

Here's the problem. Without bi-partisan support and the confidence of the American public, this thing will become a monster of epic proportion, the cause of every ill in America..real or imagined.

This bill will be blamed for every surgery scheduled a month out, every wrong diagnosis and every doctor who can't see a patient for a few days. In fact, I predict massive discrimination claims.

Think about it.

"I didn't get care in time because I'm registered republican."

"My care was denied because I'm white."

"My neighbor, the liberal, received treatment that I was denied."

People know that party affiliation is everything in socialist/communist states.

The American people do not trust this bill and with good cause. It is all politics.

Oh, then that must be why the republicans, whites, etc. haven't gotten a fair shake with Social Security or Medicare, right?

Your "proof" of what's to come doesn't jive with history.

There is little chance for bi-partisan support given, and let's be totally clear, that the GOP does not want to fix it. All of the rhetoric and flimsy "proposals" put forth are just a smokescreen to hide the fact that they don't want anything to change. That little tidbit has occasionally slipped out from their own mouths along the way. If they had their way, it wouldn't have received a minute of attention much less a year. There would have been zero negotiating, just nothing at all concerning HCR. But the polls continue to reflect Americans in high numbers showing support for reform.

The sky is falling in only one way; we grow closer and closer to the day everyone in government realizes, as so many of us have known for years, that only the privileged few at the upper end of our economy have the resources left to rebuild our nation.

Whatever you call the fulcrum of our economy got moved in favor of those wealthy folks back in Bush's first term, and ever since, we have been falling deeper into debt as a nation, even as they increase their net worth.

What we are asking of that privileged class is that they share some of the abundance they enjoy from our great nation and it's middle class consumers, FOR rebuilding this nation. We are asking for a small portion of their total wealth, and nothing more, we aren't taking away their freedoms or their status or anything resembling their sustenance, we are just taking from the extra abundance they have enjoyed since Bush moved that fulcrum.

Although one might think we were extracting blood by the pint the way they are so desperate to protect their abundance. Sometimes I think they would rather part with the blood than their excess wealth.

Sadly that has to do with some cost overruns in the CENSUS office. Is also from over a month ago (febuary 16th) and has nothing to do with job losses, home foreclosures, health care or what the guy was talking about.

Maybe you should bring in the cost of running disneyworld as that would be just as effective in disputing what the guy was talking about.

The ultra right-wing has opposed and tried to tear down Obama since the day he was elected. There's all the "Birther" absolute nonsense. The pictures of Obama in whiteface and with a Hitler moustache. Now the Teapartiers have been revealed: At their core, they are racists and degraders. They hate what America has become: Civil Rights and environmental laws, Women's right to vote, Medicare and Social Security, the Smithsonian's new mega-exhibit on human origins, nonsense about taking guns away, etc. But what really riles them up is a black man in the White House. This story--and it now appears almost certain to have happened--will show the majority of Americans, who are in the middle politically, what kind of sensibility drives so-called-conservatives, right-wingers, Tea Partiers and all the other haters who have flocked to the Republican Party, with nary a word of reproof.

This is very good and widely playing news for Dems. The Rs have outed themselves. Most Americans just don't like this kind of extremism anymore. And, except during the brief aberation of the Know Nothing Party(an historical mirror image of the Teapartiers) in the mid-1800s, a majority of Americans has always rejected this kind of extremism. Yes, bigots and right-wing extremists can win elections and win states, but the American people have refused over and again to accept the bigotry and fear-mongering tht is at the core of the Tea Party movement, flogged as it is by Beck, Hannity, and the rest of the loudmouths at Faux.

A comment reposted from the NYT article on the hate spewing lowlife Teabaggers:

The attack on health care reform has been orchestrated from the outset by the Republican Party and the health insurance industry, and has sought to involve precisely those individuals, and tap exactly those emotions, that were on display today. At the heart of the protest has been racism. The Republicans and health care industry knew that there were people out there who had not accepted an African-American President, and deliberately tapped that prejudice and hatred in mounting an attack against "socialism" and "government-controlled health care." One reason that it was impossible to reason with these people is that their real motivation was fear and hatred of the 21st century, and a black President. Don't think for a moment that those who mounted the campaign didn't know this. It's not for nothing that they run their focus groups. When I saw John Lewis tonight on CNN, walking through that crowd full of haters -- a man who had literally put his life on the line to make America a better nation -- I wanted to reach out and hug him. What a price he and others like him have paid, and apparently are still paying, for their efforts to make this a better world for everyone. Boehner, McConnell, Aetna, Wellpoint, US Healthcare, and the rest of them -- history will remember what they have done in the last few months. They have exploited the weakest, most hateful and delusional elements in our society to benefit the rich, extend their own influence, and deprive millions of Americans of the health care that they desperately need. Today we saw what it has been about all along. "Despicable" is to kind a word to describe these people. "Darkness visible" comes closer; but then Milton was a poet. KT NYC March 21st, 2010 1:43 am

I know this is going to be very hard for you liberals to belive, but Obama is in bed with the insurance companies. Who do you think will benefit for 32 million more insureds? You are as blind as a bat! Communist and Democrats are devoted to the party and that is all they care about. Country-what country? Economy-what economy? You will try to push you liberal BS on the people and when they push back it is racism. I was really shocked over that accusation. It is same old BS over and over again. The US government is the biggest bunch of racist in the world. Why aren't we running over to Africa to save those people. Even if you pass healthcare in the House and Senate, it will never see the light of day. It was great that BO pissed off the very people that will decide this issue. They will be racist, too. I am sure the Supreme Court will look favorably on anything BO sends up.

I thought that poetic license was only available to artist and writers. We must be in the presence of a very important person. Is he going to have to cover his tracts again? I am betting yes. Abstract thought-thinking that is coherent and logical. Coherent-logically connected; consistent: a coherent argument. Logical-Of, relating to, in accordance with, or of the nature of logic. So, snakes and stinging are logically connected and it is logical that, like bees, snakes sting? Stinging snakes is an evolutionary advancement, Mr. Darwin (another nut like Gore)? The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency. It will be easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to an electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.” -- Author Unknown

Your count does not mean anything, little man.

BOISE, Idaho — Idaho took the lead in a growing, nationwide fight against health care overhaul Wednesday when its governor became the first to sign a measure requiring the state attorney general to sue the federal government if residents are forced to buy health insurance.

Similar legislation is pending in 37 other states.

You want to see who should be wearing the sheets. This is from your beloved government and is currently in the law books. Try not to get your panties in a knot. This could upset most woman.

I noticed that since you first BS post, you have had zero substance. Is that the best you can do, clementine? What's wrong with Randy Weaver? Seems link you might be intimidated by real men. Randy Weaver smoked the government's rear-end in court. I believe he won $4 million. You chosing a man that lost his wife and son, speaks volumes about you. I bet you ran from fights growing up. Guantee a pussy like you never spent any time in the military. Now you hide on sites like this, hoping that you will not be found out. Your mention of Rany Weaver's name indicates what a characterless little pussy you are. Liars, thieves and corrupt people are your heros. People like Obalosi, Dirty Harry, Charlie Rangle, Barney, Kenndy and the rest of the crooks are your heros and thats because you are like them. If you were a decent person, you would be repulsed by them. I don't think we have to worry about you being a decent person. You are a fraud. Just like your friends in DC. You are not their friend. They use you and you gladly oblige. You think they are interested in you and they are, but only what they can get out of you. It is time to wake up, dummy.

What a waste of a moment to make a historic statement. He almost did, he had hints of a couple of good ideas, but in the end he wasn't ready for his close-up.

I am a VN Vet and I know about BEING SPIT ON!
The spitters were the same type political people, I suspect, that use the F word on this sight and don't see the hypocrisy in it

I was at this rally for 41/2 hours. I was in a position to observe congressman pass from the capital to office buildings. I also was in the house office buildings and observed the republican news conference and I observed that Dem offices were locked while most Rep offices were open. DEMONSTRATORS CHEERED, CHANTED AND BOOED BUT NEVER SPIT OR MADE RACIST COMMENTS TO AFM CONGRESSMAN.

I never heard the "N" word used EVER and never saw anyone spit on.

I submit that Congressman Clyburn and other AfM Dem congressman are using race to denigrate the protesters and therefore I accuse Congressman Clyburn of racism much as President Obama used race with his grandmother and black Honolulu panhandler (this story is not true!) and his profile of all white policeman as RACISTS!

Rep Rangel is BLIND! I personally met 3 AfM at this rally and saw many others!!! Charlie says none, none, none ever have participated! I also saw a number of blacks at last years 9/12 DC rally. Charlie is race bating and can not accept that not all AfM agree with him!

I called Rep Rangel's office and asked to have him informed of the presence of many blacks at these rallies.

I have yet to see a video/audio of these accusations and there were many video crews at all points.
Who was the person that was or was not arrested for spitting on Rep. Lewis and what was his/her affiliation?

I saw a lot of videos on YouTube of the marches, and saw the CBC walk together to the capitol, and never heard anyone yell the N-word. They yelled : BOOOOO, and Kill the bill, but NEVER racist slurs. as to Barney Frank, he's openly gay, and by all his action he acts like a communist, so where's the slur in "Gay Communist"?

to the folks who didn't think there was any video of this stuff, I watched it on David Frum's blog (frumforum) last night (the N word too) when I stumbled upon his Waterloo article (good stuff). I just checked and the videos are gone. AS for IkoIko, they didn't call him Gay. They called him faggot. Not the same thing.

I'm pretty centrist and I'd say, if Republicans really want to restore their dignity, they need to stop throwing raw meat to these people who are nothing but angry with no solutions and no real insight into anything about how government works, policy, or anything. It's horrible to watch. You can deny the racist angle all you want, but I am from South Louisiana and I get the emails and when I'm home, I hear it in person: these people are unapologizing racists. I can't get home for more than 5 minutes before I hear the N word in casual conversation. They are so consumed with it, they can't go five minutes without commenting. I live away and when I'm away, I think that there has been progress and then I go home and utterly sad at what I hear. Until they get out from under the racism rock, they won't be able to really look at issues before them and make rational decisions that will truly help them. Not saying they have to be liberal, but this kind of "conservatism" is utterly insane. Heartbreaking even. And the venom on this thread is just another case in point. Sad. Truly sad.

I just watched the video http://biggovernment.com/jhoft/2010/03/21/media-lying-about-racist-attacks-at-on-black-reps-by-tea-party-protesters-video-proof/

My wife and I were there standing on the street corner. The "N" word was not used! We did not see anyone spitting on anyone.

This really helps with race relations-not! What do we do if there are many Black Panthers out side polling stations in November? Now tell me again how this is post racial!

I called Rep. Tim Ryan (OH-D) and asked if his staffer understood "Tea Bagger". He reluctantly admitted that he did.
I asked that the Congressman consider the hypocrisy of calling people Tea Baggers while bemoaning the use of the "N" word and faggot.

I recommend that posters here google "tea bagger" and realize their own hypocrisy!

I called FOX 4 News Kansas City who reported the incidents as if they were fact much as the lead article here. I asked that in the future they do some investigative journalism and until sure of the facts to use the modifier "alleged".

Asked about the several thousand protestors who gathered on Capitol Hill today to protest Democratic health care reform legislation, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs joked about one of the actors who was a featured speaker at the rally, saying, “I'm sure there's a Jon Voight joke in here somewhere, given he was one of the featured speakers, but…my father always told me my mouth would get me in trouble, and I have a feeling if I acted on the line that I'd like to give you, I'm almost positive that it would.”

For instance, the following House members signed on to an initiative organized by J Street and other pro-Israel, pro-peace organizations to ease the blockade of Gaza that continues to devastate the people of that unhappy place. They can also be expected to back the President in his determination to stop the expansion of settlements.Hotels

Here is the "proof". Odd that anyone else concerned about this story hasn't posted the "proof" prominently near the story so that it could be seen by all. Thanks in advance. UK Hotels
