A group of Obama supporters stormed today's Tax Day Tea Party in downtown Washington, D.C., creating a brief and nonviolent ruckus among the tea partiers gathered to listen to Grover Norquist and Dick Armey on Freedom Plaza.
The pro-Obama group, known as "The Other 95%," held a counter-rally earlier in the day to thank Democrats for what they say are the tax cuts the party has given to 95% of Americans since Obama took power.
I happened to be standing right next to the Freedom Party steps when TO95 organizer Alex Lawson walked up with several other members carrying a massive banner reading "Thanks For Our Tax Cuts, Obama!"
D.C. cops quickly tossed the group off the plaza, but not before they got into a couple of shouting matches with tea partiers present. Check out my video of how it all went down -- and how one tea partier from Phoenix, AZ felt about it -- after the jump.
Here's the video, featuring Lawson and tea partier Sherri Stockard:
A volunteer with with TO95 me told the police tossed the group from the plaza because they didn't have a permit to protest there. TO95 captured its own video of the day, available here.
Lawson told me the group wasn't associated with the Democratic party, a union or the Obama administration.
"We are not sponsored by anyone," he said. "We're a group of concerned citizens. We put this together ourselves, and we paid for this banner...We're just out here on our lunch hours making sure our message gets heard by everyday Americans."

to95%, the tea party goers are rightfully angry with this government, the last administration and the one before that. obama promised no earmarks, that went well. what about the transparency? i guess you other 95% got the healthcare novel ahead of everyone else and had a webcam to all the backdoor meetings with pelosi and reid. he said he would wait 72 hours till he signed that bill so everyone could read and understand it, 12 hours was a long enough wait it appears. lower taxes for 95% of america, youve got to be kidding, thus the 10,000 new IRS agents coming aboard. just raise taxes on everyone else, that includes people who earned what they have now and the companies who employ the other 95% of america so those companies can pass that tax to us, in form of lay offs.you cant possibly believe 2/3rd's of his bs that flows at every speaking engagement, be real

obama promised no earmarks,
_____
"Earmarks" occur in Congress. The President, regardless his name, doesn't run Congress.
How about the Republican earmarks? You're okay with them? If not, then stop bashing Democrats because you don't know what you're talking about --
"Earmarks" are "potk". "Pork" is the money your Congressional delegation brings back to your state and district. If they don't take it, it will go to the other 49 states.
That's how the system is set up, and has been when established by the Framers. And that's exactly how you capitalist extremists demand it be.

Not to mention that most of these Republican Congressional members are from states that get more than their fair share of the swine pie. Yet, they have the nerve to go and protest against it! I'm against. But I have a reason for it. I grew up in Jersey.
Now, I live in Missouri. Our Republican legislature gave a big brew'ha over not accepting stimulus money. In the end, it was all for show. I drive to work now on a newly expanded highway partially paid for by my parents who still reside in Jersey.

Ooh good try bwford but you forgot several talking points.
Obama is a fascist and a communist who plans on sticking everyone who is not both extremes simultaneously, into census based fema internment camps.
Obama is planning on taking away your rights to buy ammunition which is why you have to run to wal-mart every other day and stock up despite the fact that it is hurting soldiers in the field and their ability to have enough ammunition. Beer too, he is taking away your right to buy that, so stock up, cause as we all know, loaded guns and lots of booze meld together quite well. We will only be allowed to eat arugula and red wine.
Obama is illegally holding the office of president because 1) he was elected by a majority vote not anointed by the supreme court. 2) He is also of course a foreign citizen who at the wee age of 0 devised a plot using sources and contacts within the Kenyan, Kansas, Hawaiian, and Indonesian government to scheme his way to the presidency knowing that the US would of course elect the first non-white male president at that point. This plan was hatched of course using the money of George Soros (whose billions were used to fund the secret space shuttle in Indonesia which took Mr Obama to the third largest moon of Jupiter where he lived till he returned to earth on a lightening bolt to take residency in Chicago and make his run towards the presidency) GE/NYT (liberal brainwashing tools), the ghost of Hitler (mentor), and all Muslims.
You need to do a better job articulating the talking points. I don't want to have to follow you around the interwebs correcting you.

Billybam, What's mendacious? The fact that there are thousands more IRS agents being hired to enforce compliance or are you quibbling over the exact number, which I heard was 15,500. It'll be 50,000 new agents before long to squeeze out every last dime from anyone who has any money left to pay off the entitlements. And then the Chinese will start "hiring" us new coolies to build their railroads to pay back all of the money we borrowed from them.

As for the people finding their voice again. I ask, "What took so long?" Liberals have always been more skillful in organizing and demonstrating. That is why I was taken a bit by surprise by the beginning's of the tea party "movement" last year. I was confused.
Progressives/liberals must begin to march and voice our opinion in the streets. The message must not be lost this time like it was during HCR. Finance, Immigration, and DADT are still major hurdles the right wing fanatics are building up to fight against in these last few months of this Congress. (Don't forget a SCOTUS vacancy). Get out there if you can, support in whatever way you can!

It's weird. Seems the tea baggers just WANT to be angry at Obama, and aren't paying attention to their own tax bills. Or maybe it was all multimillionaires at the protests.
If you convince people something is real, no amount of actual proof will sway them, this is why showing one birther (even Orly Taitz, de facto head birther) that Obama's birth certificate is real won't matter.

well, how else do you explain these people being able to take off from work and go across country to these events? I always hear Fox Radio bragging about how these people took the time to come all across the country to these events, and I ask, how the hell can they afford to do that? Either these people don't have to be employed because they are wealthy, they are retired and are receiving Social Security, or on Disability or something. The hell with socialism, huh? The reason why there aren't sane people out there providing an argument against these people is because the majority of us have better things to do, like work. Why aren't more people asking how these people can take the time to protest like this? Maybe these people didn't get a tax cut because they don't have an income or they did have to pay more taxes because they are rich. Either way it doesn't help to further their point.

I'd like to ask the Tea Nut at the end of the video is she received the "Making Work Pay" tax credit. It's right there on line 63 of form 1040 and is part of the tax package that Obama signed. The only way she could not get this credit is if she doesn't work and is below retirement age ... in other words a freeloader.

Beat me to it. The problem is that, while doing it on paper might have been more efficient, more convenient, and cheaper than cutting a hundred million checks, idiots like these sign-carrying morans don't get it, even if you point it out on their own Form 1040.
Of course, I didn't catch this the first time I ran through my 1040 myself. I caught it when Consumerist reminded me. Otherwise, my return would have ended up on the big stack the IRS will have to go through to make sure everybody gets their $400 ($800 for a couple). It's all about attention to detail, and that' not the teabaggers' strong suit.
And the NYT says these people are supposed to be smarter than the rest of us. Indeed!

No, the NYTimes poll just said they were more educated, not smarter. Many things can be inferred by that little fact.
1. They were born into the good o'boy network and never really had to think about getting their degree,
2. They went to a fundamentalist university where they associated with others of the same background, or
3. They struggled in life, like the rest of us, got their degrees by hard work, but feel they have been held back by "racist" programs like affirmative action, or quotas. Always getting the short end of the stick and looking for someone else to blame except for themselves (I have a hunch most fall into this category). Never mind the fact that it is not true, it is just what they believe, so that makes it true.

Get a job and pay $20,000+ for life saving surgery + meds when you're sick? In your dreams, me bucko. Your 25 and I bet you think you will never get sick. I'ts all fun and games till you do.
Besides do you use the Road? Do you eat? Those are federally subsidized "hang outs". What about the police on call if your "buisness" (hah) is robbed, the fire service if its on fire, the sewage systems that drain away your waste, all that is paid for by Goverment. Also The fact that the building you are in doesn't fall down, your car doesn't blow up, the roads you are on don't fall apart within 10 years, the bridge you used doesn't blow down in heavy weather, etc etc etc... all that is due to government regulation. We know this as that's what happened before the government had to step in.
By the way even if you were working 28 hours a day there's no way you would be a full time student run a full time job and run a business. Your lying. If you try you are aboUt 3 to 6 months from burnout, which will require you to pay for your healtcare. Or you are a drug dealer.

Sure, life is easier when you are born into a good family, go to a good school and never have to worry about finances, and yes it would be nice to get a little help now and then from the government, but the fact is that most government aid programs are abused on a regular basis. The impoverished that spend their money on booze and go out and buy food stamps, the man that collects work-man's comp for a broken toe, these are examples of the complete waste of much of our governmental aid. Not to mention the failure well underway with social security. Do we really want that with a finance as large as health care under governmental control? I guess my question is is it more worth it to help those that need it, knowing that those that don't will take advantage of the system, or is it better to hope the struggling Americans find their way?

"take advantage of the system"
No one takes more unfair advantage of our taxes than the military. We throw money at The Beast like gasoline on a bonfire, sometimes even to FOREIGN companies, yet somehow it is the broken-toed man on workman's comp who is breaking our national fiscal back? The military gravy train is so ingrained as the ultimate DC insider, they get their share without resistance.
BTW Sam, have you ever had a broken toe? You can not imagine the pain and disability it creates if you haven't.
And seriously, why is it that we can keep feeding hors devours and caviar to that 800 lb. military gorilla in the room, but we can't give a glass of water to the everyday citizen dying of thirst on the front porch?
It just never ceases to amaze me how anyone can argue so self righteously against welfare and at the same time shamelessly promote warfare. It is a true contradiction of the moral people we imagine ourselves to be.

The vast majority...
The right can't claim small business any more, but instead they are glad to conflate mega-multi-nationals with Main Street.
And worst of all, so many of their fiscal advocates are from that small-business-middle-middle-class. What's the Matter with Kansas may just as well have been "What's the matter with Small Business" because obviously, considering how much support they give their mega-corporate puppetmasters, they aren't voting for the benefit of their own interests.

Again, lies abound with the tea partiers. They take what Glenn and Fox shoves down their throats and then claim they don't have to cite any of the "facts" because a)the administration already said it, Glenn and Bill told me so; and b)it's common knowledge. Let's start with common knowledge. 10,000 IRS agents has proven to be utter bullshit. The IRS has been quoted that they will be hiring, but only as a function of population growth, not any new law. Earmarks:it was stated earlier in this thread but it bears saying again-OBAMA HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH EARMARKS AND ONCE AGAIN, AS WITH ALMOST EVERY BUDGET REPUBLICANS SPENT MORE. Socialism: These people couldn't define socialism or fascism if their life depended on it. They are not even remotely related. And required insurance has been around for years. Check your car. If you own a business, check your liability policy. And in some areas you're required to buy flood insurance. While some may say that it's the banks that are making those requirements(flood, some liability policies),their right to impose those requirements has been upheld by law.
The bottom line is that nothing Obama is doing is all that radical or "never been done before." And watch while the economy recovers. First quarter earnings for 90% of businesses is predicted, BY WALL STREET, NOT OBAMA.
So Tea partiers, pull your heads out of your rears and start paying attention to someone other than Beck, Palin, Bachmann, O'Reilly. THESE PEOPLE LIE.
