Poll: Blanche Lincoln’s Lead In Dem Primary Down To Single-Digit Margin

The new Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll of the Democratic Senate primary in Arkansas finds Lt. Gov. Bill Halter continuing to slowly make ground in his challenge against incumbent Sen. Blanche Lincoln, with Lincoln’s lead down to a single-digit margin.

The numbers, among likely primary voters: Lincoln 43%, Halter 35%, with a 5% margin of terror. Lincoln previously led by 45%-33% two weeks ago, and by 44%-31% a month ago. The TPM Poll Average gives Lincoln a lead of 45.2%-31.8% in the primary, with the incumbent blow 50% support.

Both Lincoln and Halter have trouble in the general election matches against the Republican candidates, but Halter is polling slightly better than Lincoln.

GOP Rep. John Boozman leads Lincoln by 52%-42%, and leads Halter by 47%-42%. State Sen. Kim Hendren leads Lincoln by 50%-40%, and just edges out Halter by 45%-43%. State Sen. Gilbert Baker leads Lincoln by 47%-40%, and edges Halter by 44%-43%. Businessman Curtis Coleman leads Lincoln by 46%-42%, while Halter leads Coleman by 43%-41%. Businessman Tom Cox leads Lincoln by 47%-42%, with Halter edging Cox by 44%-42%. The sample of likely general election voters has a ±4% margin of error.

Lincoln’s favorable rating among likely voters for the general election is only 41%, with 54% unfavorable, compared to Halter’s 48%-32% favorability. Boozman, the frontrunner for the GOP nomination, is at 44%-32%.
