The conservative advocacy group American Future Fund is attacking Kentucky Senate candidate Rand Paul (R) in a new TV ad that warns “Kentucky values are being threatened” by Rand’s campaign.
The TPM Poll Average gives Paul a lead of 42.3%-25.3% over Secretary of State Trey Grayson in the Republican primary, which will be held on May 18.
The ad says Paul “is opposed to helping farmers,” and calls on viewers to “tell Rand Paul to stand up for real Kentucky values.”
The American Future Fund describes itself as a “multi-state issues advocacy group designed to effectively communicate conservative and free market ideals.” But as TPMmuckraker previously reported, it was also behind an attempt to undermine state laws against robo-calls back in January.
In response to the ad, Paul enlisted his father Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), who e-mailed supporters with a fundraising plea, and called the American Future Fund a “shadowy” group that’s “trying to ‘Swift Boat’ Rand.”
