Gov. Charlie Crist (I-FL) has been retooling his image since he left the Republican Party to run for Senate as an independent. And a look at his website shows an amusing example.

About two weeks ago, I took a screen-capture of the front page of Crist's campaign site shortly before he announced his party switch. One element of the site that caught my eye was an image linking to an issues page, which said: "*Consistent Leadership* The Charlie Crist Conservative Record." This had been a part of his site for some months, in an effort to defend credentials on the right when he was running in the Republican primary against Marco Rubio.

Now the "consistent leadership" remains, but in a slightly different form: "*Consistent Leadership* The Charlie Crist Record." The word "conservative" has been deleted.

Here is the before picture:

And here is the after picture:

"We're undergoing a redesign of our entire website," Crist spokesperson Michelle Todd told me. "And there have been some minor changes because we are now running as independent candidate and not a Republican candidate. and those changes are reflective of that."

Is there a conflict, I asked, between proclaiming "consistent leadership" and deleting the "conservative" from the heading? "He's still the same leader that he was before," said Todd. "He hasn't changed as a governor or an elected official. He is still the same man that he promised the people of Florida he would be when he first asked them for their vote."

Politicians are generally, by nature, opportunists. I can't think of a single one on the national stage who doesn't fit that pattern.

And after he wins with this strategy, I'm sure it won't affect one bit the number of times we still get to hear either: [a] "America is a center-right nation!", or; [b] "America is a conservative nation!"

RW zombie CW doesn't die hard... it just doesn't die.

It used to be "Chain Gang" Charlie, then for some reason or other it became "Whips and Chains" Charlie, Now it's just "Winds of Change" Charlie lookin for a new Government gig.
He had, at one time, promised the people of Florida he would provide (I will quote here from the official GOVERNOR DIRECTIVE) "2. Identification, where possible, of the remains of those individuals buried on the site." of the Dozier School for Boys. The one promise he made to the people of Florida, that he COULD have fulfilled, and he chose to let the investigation die with "No Comment". Not one set of remains was ever identified. Not one set of remains was ever even looked at. (A prerequisite for identification) Not even a cursory GPR glance of the cemetery to see how many sets of remains may be buried there. (let alone move a scoop or two of dirt to see what may be under it.) For that omission alone, he needs to just go away.

Christ is a smart man. Conservative once meant 'one who conservs.' Who knows what it means today - but it sure does not fit with anything we see happening in this world. The Gulf oil disaster is an example. ......
