DeMint Refuses To Comment About Rand Paul’s Position On Civil Rights Act (VIDEO)

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC)

Sen. Jim DeMint, the South Carolina Republican who backed Rand Paul in his Senate primary, today refused to comment to Think Progress about Paul’s critiques of the Civil Rights Act.

“I haven’t seen the interview yet,” DeMint said. “I’m gonna talk to Rand about his positions there before I talk to you.”

DeMint also said that he supports the Civil Rights Act.

DeMint was taking the same line as other Republican leaders today. Both John Cornyn, the chair of the NRSC (which is responsible for getting Paul elected), and House Minority Whip Eric Cantor said they hadn’t seen Paul’s remarks and had no comment.

In interviews yesterday, Paul criticized both the Civil Rights Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act because they regulate private enterprise.
