In the Republican primary in the KY-03 House race, the NRCC chose Jeff Reetz as their candidate --- but it looks like they chose the wrong tea partier.

Reetz, a Pizza Hut franchise owner, lost the primary, badly, to UPS pilot Todd Lally. Lally won 52% of the vote to Reetz's 17%, with 94% of precincts reporting. Reetz didn't even come in second: Another Republican, Larry Hausman, garnered 25% of the vote.

All the candidates had courted the tea party vote, and Lally and Reetz had both appeared at tea party events and had spoken out against "ObamaCare." But the NRCC chose Reetz for their "Young Guns" program, naming him a third-tier "on the radar" candidate in April.

It's a quieter echo of the Kentucky Senate race, where tea partier Rand Paul won the primary tonight in a landslide over establishment candidate Trey Grayson. Paul's win is a bit of a blow to Republicans, especially Senate Minority Leader and Kentucky senator Mitch McConnell.

Lally will face Rep. John Yarmuth (D-KY), who was unopposed in the primary, and independent candidate Michael D. Hansen in November.

The Third District includes most of Louisville, and was the only district in Kentucky to go for President Obama in a split of 56 to 43.

This was interesting until I heard he was facing Yarmuth. He's toast.

Also, the majority of the GOP establishment was caught up in sex and electoral fraud scandals in 2006; I feel like the governor finished his term in jail. That plays a big role in Kentucky party politics: the KY GOP establishment is universally despised.

Which means mcconnel is at least 0 for 2 so far at home. Both of the losses have been major ass kickin's too. Although shitting his pants, mcconnel will have to smile & act like it's all good.
Yes, problems abound, but handing the reins back to the bush neo-cons is not an option.
Winning is contagious & it feels so good!!

David Gregory had a funny little smile on his face when he gave him a hot-footing one-liner on Meet the Press: "You're not going to be in the State on election night, are you?"

Gregory just let that one drift while McConnell talked nonsense, but I can see now that his was going to be (and was) a *really* bad night for the Republicans there, and McConnell was indeed soiling his trousers, as Gregory obviously knew.

I'll take your word on that, I quit watching MTP because of David Gregory. If he skewered mcconell, then good on him. Mitchy has been getting away with way to much.
