Is Bob Bennett Considering Running As A Write-In Candidate?

Sen. Bob Bennett (R-UT)

Sen. Bob Bennett (R-UT) — who lost his renomination bid at last weekend’s Utah GOP convention — might still run for Senate again this year. He hasn’t ruled it out yet.

Asked today about the possibility of running as a write-in candidate this fall, Bennett didn’t say no.

“I’ve made no decisions to make a decision,” Bennett said, adding that he would decide “later.”

“We’ve made the decision not to make any decisions about what I do for now until I have a little time to think about it,” Bennett also said, according to CNN.

Bennett also described returning to the Senate after being dumped by his party as being “like going to your own funeral but still being alive.”

“People say nice things now that it doesn’t matter.”

Utah’s other Republican senator, Orrin Hatch, suggested that he didn’t think Bennett would run as a write-in. Politico reports:

Asked if he could support Bennett as a write-in, he said, “Let me put it this way, he’s not going to do that.”
