Political candidates are forced to expose much -- just usually not their chests.

Ohio Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher beat Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner last night to win the Democratic nomination for Senator, and a new GOP web video mercilessly juxtaposes an image of Fisher topless with a smooth jazz soundtrack.

The web video, put out by the Ohio NRSC, attacks Fisher's record as lieutenant governor, but more importantly, shows us more than we ever wanted to see of his chest hair. According to a Politico report from last year, the image comes from a 2008 documentary about Ted Strickland's 2006 campaign for governor, and was shot by Fisher's son.

The TPM Poll Average for this race shows Fisher with a slim 40.5%-39.2% lead over former Rep. Rob Portman (R).

Coming on the heels of the George Rekers revelation, you have to wonder about the Ohio GOP.

This is another example of the material the GOP uses in their campaigns that has no bearing on one's qualification for office. While I'm not suggesting that Democrats and their campaign operators qualify for sainthood, there is no moral equivalency between the depths each party is willing to sink. If Scott Brown was a Democrat running for the Senate, the State of Massachusetts would have been bombarded with TV ads, print ads, mailings and billboards of his centerfold photo. Can you imagine the sleeze that would be introduced by Republicans if Senator Vitter was a Dem?

The GOP never stop lunging for the Dukakis in a tank moment. That was the pinnacle for them- it never got any better. Barnacles on the ship of state. That's all they are.

According to a Politico report from last year, the image comes from a 2008 documentary about Ted Strickland's 2006 campaign for governor, and was shot by Fisher's son.

I was going to ask, "Wait -- doesn't that mean it's copyrighted material? And that the GOP is probably in violation of copyright? (Not that that is unusual for them.)"

But then I went to play the video, and the link is now saying, "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by BSB Media, LLC"

BBC Media, LLC are the owners and operators of Buckeye State Blog, and apparently had issued a cease and desist order to the NRSC after the ad was pulled from YouTube and the NRSC uploaded it to their own web site, as Buckeye State Blog details here.
