Toomey: I Don’t Care Whether I Face Sestak Or Specter In The General Election

Republican candidate for PA-Senate Pat Toomey

Former Rep. Pat Toomey (R-PA) says he doesn’t care which Democrat wins tomorrow’s Senate primary in Pennsylvania.

“I’ll be ready for either one,” Toomey said on MSNBC today.

The TPM Poll Average shows Rep. Joe Sestak (D-PA) leading Sen. Arlen Specter (D-PA) 45.3% to 42.6% in Tuesday’s Democratic Senate primary. In a general election match-up, the TPM Poll Average shows Toomey leading Specter 45.6% to 38.8%, and leading Sestak 39.1% to 35.4%.

“I try not to develop a preference for things I can’t control the outcome of,” Toomey said in response to Andrea Mitchell’s question about which Democrat he’d prefer to face in November.

In the meantime, he took shots at both.

Toomey had this to say of Specter: “A year ago he left the Republican Party because he knew he couldn’t beat me.”

Whether it’s against Arlen Specter — who I think has irreparably damaged his credibility — or if it’s Joe Sestak, who’s at the far left-wing of the Democratic Party, an extreme liberal, I think I’m gonna be in good shape either way.
Arlen Specter, Joe Sestak, PA-SEN, Pat Toomey
