The new Rasmussen poll of the Arizona Republican Senate primary gives Sen. John McCain a double-digit lead over his main challenger, former Rep. J.D. Hayworth — and this was from before people found out about Hayworth’s experience as an infomercial pitchman for “free money” from the government.
The numbers: McCain 47%, Hayworth 36%, and conservative activist Jim Deakin at 7%. The survey of likely voters has a ±4% margin of error. In last month’s poll, which did not include Deakin, McCain led Hayworth by 52%-40%. The TPM Poll Average gives McCain a lead of 51.2%-37.1%, based on polls that do not include Deakin.
The poll was conducted last week on June 16, before yesterday’s story about Hayworth’s work on the infomercial.
