Democrats were already pretty pleased with the fact that NRCC chairman Pete Sessions pushed for a return to Bush era policies over the weekend. Now they have more ammunition. On C-SPAN's Newsmakers yet, NRSC chairman John Cornyn went a step further.
"Look, I think President Bush's stock has gone up a lot since he left office," Cornyn said. "People appreciate his resolve and commitment in the face of a national security threat like 9/11. He had his challenges no doubt. We have learned a lot about things we could have done better as Republicans in terms of fiscal responsibility...I think a lot of people are looking back with a little more -- with more fondness on President Bush's administration, and I think history will treat him well."
Looks like both Democrats and Republicans want the 2010 elections to be a referendum on the bush administration. Video below the fold.

Right wingers wistfully remembering the administration whose policies led to a major recession and who started an unnecessary, propaganda-inspired war in Iraq:
"Thank you GWB, may I have another.."
On the other hand, his regime did help the rich to become even richer...

This should prove once and for all that the GOP had no problem with Bush's policies and have learned absolutely nothing during his presidency. Despite the financial breakdowns and the mistake of going to war in the first place, the Republicans want to go back to the same shit that got us into the mess we are in now.

I think the shrub's stock has gone up since he left for three reasons, most importantly he has left office. Second he's keeping his mouth shut and not reminding everyone what he actually did while in office. Third, the press can't bring themselves to say a bad thing about him after supporting the idiot for eight years. I can't wait for the Republics to open that can of worms.

Fiscal Responsibility, a concept invented in 2009.

"Fiscal Responsibility" is another way of saying that Republicans don't like what Democrats want to spend money on, and hate the fact that they don't have the final say on spending. When they were in charge of everything, just a few years ago, they couldn't spend it fast enough, and Deficits don't matter was their excuse for it. Now, since the Democrats have control, the Republicans have rediscovered the argument that the deficit and debt is killing us. Isn't that the definition of hypocrisy?

If Shrub's stock is going up, that means it must be trading. Is there someplace I can short it? :)

They're obviously trying to gin up a round of "Bush presidency being reconsidered" stories.
It's a classic Rovian gambit: Tell a lie (the bigger the better) then see if amplifying it through the Fox News megaphone will get the rest of the corporate media to buy into it. If yes, keep repeating. If no, stop and deny you never said it in the first place.
The key is to never, ever show any embarrassment or self-doubt about telling outrageous falsehoods.
Fortunately (for the GOP, if not for the republic) embarrassment isn't in the Rovian emotional range (which runs more towards sadistic pleasure and childish glee in the misfortunes of others).
