Mark Foley. Those two words can still strike fear into the heart of any House Minority Leader, and John Boeher (R-OH) is no different. But rather than give Democrats an opening in November to suggest he looked away while his boys’ club played, Boehner is reportedly cracking down on the extracurricular activities of his caucus with an iron fist.
According to Page 6, Boehner told a few caucus members with eyes for pretty lobbyists to “knock it off.” Whose behavior might have caught Boehner’s jaundiced eye?
GOP Rep. Lee Terry of Nebraska — who’s in a tough race against Democratic opponent Tom White — was witnessed by Page Six in close conversation with a comely lobbyist at the Capitol Hill Club in DC recently.“Why did you get me so drunk?” Terry asked the giggling woman, among other personal remarks.
Upon realizing that he’d been overheard by a reporter, Terry started talking about his kids.
Also reportedly in the crosshairs was Missouri Congressman Sam Graves, captured on camera by a Kansas City blogger dining at D.C.’s divey Brickskeller, known more for its beer menu and dark corners than cuisine or quiet conversational opportunities.
Page 6 also notes that Reps. Duncan Hunter (R-CA), Bill Shuster (R-PA) and Terry are known to hang out with lobbyists, unofficially and after-hours, at the rowhouse of lobbyist Glenn LeMunyon, a former staffer of Tom DeLay. LeMunyon denied that his home was being used “inappropriately.”
When asked by reporters today about the reports, Boehner responded, “I don’t make a habit of commenting on rumor and speculation. And secondly I don’t comment on private conversations that I might have with a member.” He declined to deny the veracity of the report.
