Meet Alvin Greene’s New Campaign Team

US Senate candidate Alvin Greene (D-SC)

Alvin Greene is getting a little professional help.

Corey Hutchins reports in the South Carolina alt-weekly Free Times that the state’s surprise Democratic Senate nominee has hired a Los Angeles consulting firm founded by a former Congressional candidate to help run his campaign.

The Warren Group — started by retired Defense Department auditor and former congressional candidate Donna Warren, who sued the CIA and DOJ more than a decade ago for “allowing” crack cocaine to infest her Los Angeles neighborhood — is doing the work on the Greene campaign for free.

“That’s how much we believe in him,” Warren said.

The new Greene team also includes South Carolina intellectual property lawyer Felipe Farley and his brother.

“We decided to come together around the excitement of Mr. Greene’s candidacy and we’re really glad to be on board with him,” Farley said.

Here’s Corey’s take on how Team Greene came together.

Warren had been watching the media reaction to Greene’s win and said she was shocked at the attacks, such as those that came from as high up as U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn and others.

“I said, ‘Oh, no, this cannot be; this is horrible,’” she says.

She picked up the phone and gave Greene a call.

“I said, ‘Who do you have working on your campaign? Who’s helping you?’”

Greene told her he had some support in town, but no one really official.

“I said, ‘Well, I support you, too,’” Warren says.

Greene took her on.

While Greene will never be the sort of candidate to “make long, long speeches” or “talk endlessly like some politicians or some campaign advisors,” Farley says his campaign shouldn’t be underestimated.

“We expect him to do very well in November. I think a lot of people aren’t giving him credit. I think his senate opponent underestimated him in the primary and I think people are continuing to underestimate Mr. Greene.”
