SC Minor League Baseball Team Fulfilling Alvin Greene’s Dream With Alvin Greene Action Figures

Alvin Greene, the surprise Democratic Senate nominee in South Carolina, thinks the country’s economic woes can be solved with a line of Alvin Greene action figures.

The minor league baseball Charleston RiverDogs are one step ahead of him, with plans to hand out “Mr. Lady Liberty” Statue of Liberty figurines at Saturday’s game — with Greene’s face on the front.

The RiverDogs had planned to hand out male versions of the Statue of Liberty to the first 1,000 attendees at the game, in response to a proposal to build a Mr. Liberty on the South Carolina coast.

Greene pitched the idea last week to create jobs by making “toys of me, especially for the holidays. Little dolls. Me. Like maybe little action dolls.” The RiverDogs, a class A affiliate of the New York Yankees, rose to the occasion as part of their “Be Your Own Statue” night on July 17.

Coincidentally, they’re playing the Augusta GreenJackets.

RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols said of the plan: “We were already excited for our ‘Be Your Own Statue’ night even before Mr. Greene served up this lob. Who better epitomizes the American dream that anything is possible than Mr. Greene?”

The team has tried similarly bizarre promotions in the past, in one instance playing for totally empty stands on “Nobody Night.” They also canceled a planned “Vasectomy Night” 13 years ago after fans complained.
