FANCY FARM, KY -- The Jack Conway who showed up at Saturday's Fancy Farm Picnic was not the one who stumbled through the event last year. In 2009, Conway -- then locked in a tough Democratic primary for Senate -- blurted out "I'm one tough son of a bitch" in response to the screaming hecklers that make a Fancy Farm speech what it is. Maybe not the kind if language that upsets you (or the average network television censor), but it was enough to apparently upset the Catholic crowd at Fancy Farm and shock, simply shock, the NRSC.
This year, the lead up to Conway's speech was mostly focused on the SOB remark, with "will he or won't he?" speculation about whether Conway would repeat the unscripted stuff serving as the only real controversy of the day. People needn't have bothered -- Conway delivered a firey speech that had plenty of tough words for Republican nominee Rand Paul, but none of them crossed the line into PG-13 territory.
But boy, did the speech stick it to Paul. Conway came out swinging, mocking Paul for his early gaffes on the campaign trail and attacking Paul as "a waffling pessimist who wants to be the prince of cable TV."
"There seems to be an emerging theme for Rand Paul and the Republicans this year," Conway said. "And that theme is, 'accidents happen.'"
So began a call-and-response routine with the crowd at the event that called for them to repeat the phrase, which came from Paul's infamous explanation for the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Conway has already suggested that Paul is too extreme for Kentucky. Now he's focusing, his campaign says, on the times Paul has been forced to move toward the establishment Republican view on an issue since he handily won his primary running against the mainstream Kentucky GOP, led of course by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Though McConnell stood with Paul all day today and offered strong praise for him both at Fancy Farm and the Republican breakfast Saturday morning, Conway tried to reopen the wounds from the primary, when Paul defeated the man McConnell wanted to win the Republican nomination. Democrats hope that residual anger at the primary among more moderate Republicans could turn them into Conway voters.
"What did Mitch McConnell tell the Republican Party the day after the primary?" Conway quipped in his speech. "Accidents happen!" the crowd dutifully replied.
The TPM Poll Average shows Paul leading Conway 46.3-41.0 in Kentucky's Senate race.

They should have mentioned the one proposal that Rand did offer. A waiting period for all bills, 20 days for every 1 page of legislation. Not only does he want to defund, neuter, and dismantle the government from the inside out, he will create a non-functioning branch of government. Even worse than it currently is.
Check out the full video of Radical Rand's Risky Rantings.
The 20 day stuff happens about the 6:20 mark. You can hear chants of "I back Jack" and "waffle, waffle". It is so fulfilling to see a teabagger get heckled. Oh how the tables have turned!

Here's a video of how to teabag a teabagger. Local news reporting on the Fancy Farm festivities, at the :56 mark they showed a colonial costumed teabagger getting his just desserts from the other side.
Teabagger "I don't need social security", Anti-teabagger "tear up your checks then and don't visit the Grand Canyon cause its socialism"
In your face teabagger, literally.

For your information there a quite a few of us here on the battleground fighting these willfully ignorant teabaggers. Jack Conway had great support at this event and his supporters did a great job heckling Rand Paul. I loved the "waffle" chant. They had a plywood mock of "Rand Paul's Waffle House, Flippin Positions 24/7" The menu included “term limit scramble” (“Rand won't eat these but insists you do.”)
Here's a great article in the Courier detailing some of the supporters from both sides. Ironically it was some of Paul's supporters whose Grim Reaper costumes were scaring small children at the family picnic that were asked to take off their masks or leave. Then they argued that the property owner, St Jerome's Parish, didn't have the right to kick the reapers off the Parish's private property. Oh the ironic world of teabaggers, when asked for their names by the reporter, they said they weren't allowed to talk to reporters. Sounds like your run of the mill grass root supporter? Than another Paulbot in a dolphin costume stated that this wasn't HIS idea.

Look, we are doing everything we can here in KY to beat back the national teabagger fringe and any help that the national anti-teabber supporters could give us would be greatly appreciated.

Of course donations are the number one thing. Rand has received $10,000 from the Citizens United group and Big Coal is already planning their attack using their new corporate campaign influence. I think the campaign may be in short supply of signs because people on the facebook page are ALWAYS asking for signs. We've got to make sure that we can get our message out. You can visit www.jackconway.org to volunteer anyway you can. Friend us on Facebook at Jack Conway for Kentucky.

Exactly the incident I was thinking about. The sitting Vice-President (and president of the Senate) dropping an F-bomb on the Senate Majority Leader on the steps of the Capitol is no problem, but let a Democratic primary candidate call himself and SOB, and the NRSC gets the vapors.
Stinking hypocrites.

Thats the point. Remember when Grover Norquist said that he wanted shrink government down to the size where it could be drowned in a bathtub?
The majority of republicans realize that the best way to convince people of the ineffectiveness of "big" government is for them to do every single thing in their power to make it ineffective. That "20 days per page of legislation" proposal is the most cynical move I've ever seen. For example, take the Patriot Act, an odious piece of legislation I bet Rand Paul would have been tripping over himself to sign, despite his alleged "libertarian" philosophy. At 342 pages, that would mean a waiting period of...6840 days. That would mean a wait of some 18 years. Hell, the average piece of legislation for the 109th Congress was 15 pages, meaning a wait of 300 days (on average, of course). If I were a Kentuckian, I'd be kind of pissed off at Rand Paul for insulting my intelligence.

Here's another U. S. Senate race I think we should support WITH MONEY now:
Elaine Marshall in North Carolina is down to near $200,000 and Sen. Richard Burr has over 6 million. The DSCC/DNC backed the guy Marshall beat 60/40 in the primary. She's seems like a good candidate personally/politically and Burr has high negatives (now he's one of 5 senators calling for an investigation because Andy Griffith did a Medicare commercial).
I urge everybody here to send her some dough.

From 8/3 Political Wire:
"MARSHALL CLOSING ON BURR
A new Public Policy Polling survey in North Carolina finds Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) just ahead of challenger Elaine Marshall (D), 39% to 37%, with 7% for Libertarian Michael Beitler.
Key finding: "The main thing that's changed since the last poll, when Burr led by 5, is that Marshall is shoring up her support from within the party. 65% of Democrats say they'll vote for her, up from 57% a month ago. Burr continues to lead because of a 44-25 advantage with independents and because with 73% Republican support his party is more unified around him than Marshall's is around her."

Yes, I also want to give out a huge THANK YOU to TPM. Thanks for bringing national attention to our hard fought battle here in KY against a teabag takeover. Jack has been the dark horse in this race for a long time. Usually he's always billed as the guy running against Rand Paul. Conway is a great example of an energetic Democrat. I think he's got a great message for KY voters that tend to be too timid to vote for Dems in national elections but outnumber registered republicans. All Jack needs is to make sure he can win over all KY Dems, progressive and conservative alike. And Rand Paul can't win without Dems jumping the boat. So the blue vote is the most important. After this weekend, I am proud to say that we are fired up and ready to go. It felt so good to beat teabaggers at their own game, heckling and sign making. KY dems made me proud with the Rand Paul Waffle House and the neanderPaul cave man they had at the event. They also had some great signs made up too. News flash for the national teabaggers, you're not going to come to KY and hijack our election without one helluva fight.

From the Louisville Courier Journal:
"Get on the bus. Or not.
Republicans at Fancy Farm talked about big crowds at events like the Graves County Republican Party breakfast on Saturday morning and said it shows an energized Republican Party around the state.
And while there is no doubt some truth to that — especially among Republicans who haven't traditionally been involved in the process — there was one sign that such enthusiasm might not be there for ESTABLISHMENT REPUBLICANS (my caps) who backed Grayson over Paul.
The Fayette County GOP tried to organize a bus trip to Fancy Farm but two days before the picnic, Chairman Carol Rogers sent out an e-mail saying the trip “has been canceled due to lack of interest. Only six people signed up to go. … Maybe next year.”
