In yet another sign of how Gov. Charlie Crist (I-FL) is mopping up Democratic support in the Florida Senate race, the ex-Republican is now getting some fundraising help from none other than Mark Penn.
The former top pollster and campaign strategist for Hillary Clinton will be hosting a $4,800-per-person fundraising reception for Crist this Wednesday, the St. Petersburg Times reports. This development shows the further marginalization of Democratic Rep. Kendrick Meek and Dem businessman Jeff Greene. In the TPM Poll Averages, Crist leads Rubio and Meek by 37.8%-33.2%-14.7%, and Crist leads Rubio and Greene by 37.5%-32.9%-16.4%.
Memo to Crist: By all means, take Penn's money. But whatever you do besides that, do not let him give you any advice about micro-targeting Dem voters.

Penn?
I agree; take the financial help but I sure as hell wouldn't take any campaign advice from him.

Marco Rubio is the only candidate to trust to go to Washinington and cut social security to give tax breaks to the rich!

I don't understand Eric Kleefeld's criticism of Mark Penn for "micro-targeting Dem voters".
Mark Penn did a terrific job as an advisor to Hillary Clinton. Problem was he was up against an entire media establishment acting as Obama's campaign manager and PR team. It was him against literally thousands of "journalists" who were working for the Obama campaign. They set the rules. You were either for Obama or you were a racist. I don't know how he could have won a game that rigged.
Not sure Obama will have the same rigged field in 2012.

So far, it certainly looks like lots of the folks who are against him now are racist, so I don't know why that would change in 2012...

Rigged??? Oh that is so laughable!! The only rigging going on there was McCain, who incidentally was a terrible candidate, picking even a worse one for a running mate! The only reason McCain chose Plain was because Obama didn't choose Hillary. That's not the media's doing...that's just the facts as they are. Also I didn't see journalists bringing candidate Obama his favorite donuts and coffee the way Liz Sidoti of the AP did for John McCain.

Ah yes... I remember that wall-to-wall Rev. Wright "rigging" so fondly.

Penn is a great fundraiser......and just how great will be proven-out when Crist wins and who he decides to caucus with.

A few observations. First, Crist will be a more reliable vote for 'our side' than the 'real' Fl. Dem ever was, regardless of how he identifies himself after the election. Second, Penn is an ass-wipe who made millions taking an almost certain lock for the pres. nomination and piloting the campaign home in second place. Take his money but run away from his advice.

Why does it feel like we are doing damage control, rather than offensive maneuvers? I hate feeling like a pawn on a chessboard.

I don't think he needs campaign advice from Penn. Gov. Crist seems to be doing quite well since leaving the GOP.

Penn and Axelrod need to keep their mugs off of public news. There's something unappealing about them, something that amounts to much more than their looks. Body language, voice? Hard to put my finger on it.

Crist is gonna school Penn, at least in Florida. Crist is doing exactly what he's got to do to stay alive. Not to mention, the GOOPbaggers were the wrong place for him from the get.
A true contender that keeps Rubio away from the power levers that isn't a flaming teanut, isn't all bad.
