PPP Poll: Giannoulias Leads Kirk By 2 In Illinois Senate Race

IL Senate candidates Alexi Giannoulias (D) and Mark Kirk (R)

A new PPP poll of the Illinois Senate shows Democratic state Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias with a two-point lead over Republican Rep. Mark Kirk, 37%-35%. Green Party candidate LeAlan Jones pulls in 9%.

The last PPP poll of the race, from two months ago, showed Giannoulias ahead of Kirk 31%-30%, with Jones taking 14%.

Both Giannoulias and Kirk have had their share of issues to deal with on the campaign. Giannoulias has had to deal with the collapse of his family bank, while Kirk has been among this cycle’s high-profile candidates who’ve been caught embellishing their military records.

The TPM Poll Average shows Kirk leading Giannoulias 40.6%-40.5% in a head-to-head matchup — though those numbers do not include polls that asked respondents about Jones.
