Michael Steele introduced a new fashion accessory at today’s Republican National Committee meeting in Kansas City, when, like almost everyone in the audience, the RNC Chairman donned a bright-red “Fire Pelosi” cap. It was something of a theme at the event. And a “Fire Nancy Pelosi” bus tour will begin this fall.
“The American people have been very clear from the pool halls and the church halls, to the diners and the donut shops, in the red-hot Arizona sun and on the cool-blue California beaches, at the Liberty Bell and the Charleston Harbor, they’re all saying one thing: Fire Nancy Pelosi! Retire Harry Reid!” Steele said, according to his prepared remarks.
Steele sounded bullish on the November elections:
We have 88 days. In less than two years, we have gone from a demoralized super-minority party to a legion of effective shock troops who are on the offense and making Democrats sweat.
Steele concluded his remarks with a nod to history — and to his party’s base. “We are about to embark on the next step to fulfilling the promise of American greatness, a promise that dates back to the first Tea Party and our fight for Independence,” he said, according to his prepared remarks. “In 1775, the patriots of the Second Continental Congress gathered in a room smaller than this one, and wrote what just as easily could have been penned today: ‘Honor, justice, and humanity, forbid us tamely to surrender that freedom which we received from our gallant ancestors, and which our innocent posterity have a right to receive from us.’”
Said one committee member following Steele’s speech, “Mr. Chairman, this is a great hat. But I’d like it to be a fashion item for only one election season.”
The DNC’s Brad Woodhouse snarked that Democrats also are doing a political slogan bus tour this fall. “It’s called the Don’t Fire Michael Steele Bus Tour.”
