House Leadership Aide: ‘We Won’t Adjourn This Week’

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., House Education Chairman George Miller, D-Calif., House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., House Transportation Chairman James L. Oberstar, D-Minn., and House Appropriations Chairman David R. Obey, D-Wis., during a news conference.

Following an article in Politico that claimed House Democrats might adjourn on Friday until after the elections, House Democrats are denying that any such move is in the works.

A House leadership aide told TPMDC flatly, “We won’t adjourn this week.”

The Politico article mentioned that the early adjournment would likely hinge at least upon passage of a continuing resolution to fund the government until after the elections, and that it might additionally be postponed until after a vote on the expiring Bush tax cuts.

The Democratic aide added that there was no vote on the tax cuts yet in the offing: House Democrats are waiting for the Senate to vote first.

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, meanwhile, told reporters this morning the Politico report is absolutely not true.
