Ken Buck Recants Support Of Dan Maes

CO-GOV candidate Dan Maes (R) and CO-SEN candidate Ken Buck (R)

More bad news for Dan Maes. Colorado Republican Senate nominee Ken Buck has withdrawn his support for Maes, the party’s gubernatorial nominee, according to the local CBS affiliate.

“I have decided that I can no longer support his candidacy for governor of Colorado,” Buck said in a statement. “[Maes] is struggling to determine the best path for his campaign, his family and for Colorado.”

The news comes in the wake of questions over Maes’ claim that he once worked undercover on a drug and gambling case in Kansas. And over the last few days, Maes has been hearing increasing calls from Republicans to drop out of the race, and even tea party members are now abandoning his campaign.

Read Buck’s full statement:

After having a lengthy conversation with Dan Maes, it is clear to me that Dan is struggling to determine the best path for his campaign, his family and for Colorado. I have decided that I can no longer support his candidacy for governor of Colorado.

I will continue to focus my campaign on strategies to create jobs in Colorado and control spending in Washington. Our appointed U.S. Senator has legislated unemployment by rubberstamping the anti-growth policies in Washington and avoiding the concerns of folks in Colorado. My time and energy will continue to be devoted to earning the trust and support of Colorado voters in November.
