Bill Binnie, a candidate in the Republican primary for senate in New Hampshire, has addressed rumors that he had received death threats over his pro-choice stance on abortion, telling the Conway Daily Sun: “Why am I being attacked by these outside groups? Do you think their motivation is anything other than that? Look who is attacking me, it’s a real issue. I think (Thursday) we got over 1,000 pieces of mail to my home, 1,000. We don’t answer our phone anymore.
According to Binnie, both he and his 80-year-old father have received threats: “I’m a fiscally conservative pro-choice Republican. People come up to our doorway all the time.”
Rye police Chief Kevin Walsh confirmed that the police are investigating one harassing phone call, which Binnie received July 23. “We are not investigating death threats,” Walsh said. “It’s not unusual for an officer to go to a house and take a report of a harassing phone call. This is just one incident that we’re investigating.”
But, according to the Monitor, Binne Campaign Manager Bryan Lanza “said it was clearly a death threat, regardless of how the police categorized it.”
