‘Aqua Buddha’ TV Ad Could End This Week, Conway Says

From a Conway campaign ad,

Kentucky Democratic Senate nominee Jack Conway told reporters today that the much-discussed Aqua Buddha ad he’s running as an attack on Republican Rand Paul could come down a week before voters head to the polls.

The AP reports that Conway said the “ad questioning the tea party candidate’s affiliation during college with a group that mocked Christianity was only intended to run five to seven days” in the first place. Conway said “he doesn’t feel pressured” to pull down the ad, which has drawn criticism from both sides of the aisle.

Conway has not been shy in defending the spot, or the strategy of using Paul’s years in an undergraduate society that was banned from Baylor University for mocking the school’s Baptist foundations against the Republican.

On Hardball last night, he told host Chris Matthews that he was comfortable making college Paul the issue.

Paul, meanwhile has dismissed the ad as false (an independent group said he’s wrong there) and has called using his college years against him “gutter politics.”

As a refresher, here’s the ad everyone’s talking about:

The TPM Poll Average shows Paul leading the race 46.8-41.8.
