Bill Clinton On Mission To Rescue Democratic Party
The Washington Post reports: “Bill Clinton is baffled. The former president’s friends say he is in disbelief that in the closing weeks of the midterm campaigns Democrats have failed to articulate a coherent message on the economy and, worse, have allowed themselves to become ‘human pinatas.’ So Clinton is deploying himself on a last-ditch, dawn-to-dusk sprint to rescue his beleaguered party. And as the only president in modern times who has balanced the federal budget, he is leveraging his credibility to become one of the most fierce defenders of President Obama’s economic policies.”
Obama’s Day Ahead
President Obama will depart form San Francisco at 1:15 p.m. ET, arriving at 2:20 p.m. ET in Los Angeles. He will deliver remarks at a 3:45 p.m. ET event for Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA), and speak at a 4:55 p.m. ET DNC rally. He will depart from Los Angeles at 5:50 p.m. ET, and tape an interview at 6:25 p.m. ET for the Piolin Show in Glendale. He will depart form Glendale at 7:05 p.m. ET, and depart from Los Angeles at 7:30 p.m. ET, arriving at 8:30 p.m. ET in Las Vegas, Nevada. He will deliver remarks at a 9:10 p.m. ET DNC rally, and attend a dinner at 10:45 p.m. ET for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV).
Biden’s Day Ahead
Vice President Biden will be in Wilmington, Delaware, in the morning, and does not have any public events scheduled. At 6:30 p.m. ET, he and his wife Dr. Jill Biden will host a reception at the Naval Observatory, in honor of the inaugural Eunice Kennedy Shriver Challenge.
Congressional Hopefuls Avoid Media, Events At 11th Hour Of Elections
The Washington Post reports: “Congressional hopefuls from California to Delaware are shunning the traditional trappings of campaigns, avoiding public events, debates and other venues where they can’t control the action. Many are keeping their schedules secret and limiting their in-person appearances and have canceled interviews on national television in favor of smaller, friendlier venues.”
Obama Tries To Win Women Back
The New York Times reports: “Women came out strong for Barack Obama in 2008. Now, with barely 10 days before the midterm elections that are looking increasingly perilous for his party, he is trying to win them back. Mr. Obama turned his attention on Thursday to convincing the female voters who helped deliver the presidency to him not to abandon the Democratic Party in its hour of need. In a series of orchestrated events, the White House sought to make the case that Mr. Obama’s two years in office have already been a boon to women all over the country.”
GOP Potential Presidential Candidates Want NPR Funding Examined After Williams Firing
The Hill reports: “Three potential 2012 Republican presidential candidates chimed in Thursday on the firing of NPR news analyst Juan Williams, with two of them calling on Congress to scrutinize NPR’s federal funding. Williams was ousted Wednesday night for comments he made on Fox News about Muslims. But former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.) all called NPR’s move an act of censorship and political correctness.”
