Kaine On Manchin’s Rifle Ad: ‘I’m Not Wild About It’

Joe Manchin and Tim Kaine

DNC Chairman Tim Kaine said this morning he doesn’t love West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin’s much ballyhooed Senate ad featuring the Democrat firing his rifle at the “cap-and-trade” climate bill, but the gun isn’t the problem.

“I’m not wild about it,” Kaine told reporters at the Christian Science Monitor breakfast this morning.

But Kaine said “the part that I most don’t like” is when Manchin said he’d fix what he didn’t like from “Obamacare.”

Kaine said West Virginia’s two “very good Senators” (both Democrats) voted for health care reform, which he said has a lot to offer the state given its dismal health care statistics.

That said, Kaine believes Manchin is a good governor who would be a good senator, “but I’m not wild about the ad.”

But what about the rifle, Mr. Chairman?

Kaine: “He’s a hell of a shot.”
