New Obama TV Ad Aims At ‘08 Voters: ‘We Cannot Sit This One Out’ (VIDEO)

President Barack Obama

President Obama stars in a new national television ad to boost get-out-the-vote efforts, a 30-second commercial that the Democratic National Committee hopes lays out the stakes for the midterm elections next month.

“If the other side does win, they will spend the next two years fighting for the very same policies that led to this recession in the first place,” Obama says in the ad.

TPM obtained a copy of the ad which you can watch below. It’s aimed to run along with Obama’s planned town hall forum on BET, MTV and CMT tonight.

It’s a blast from the past, using footage from Obama’s two recent rallies in Madison, WI and in Philadelphia to remind young voters of their happy feelings from 2008. It makes sure to flash the info to sign up for text messages, a key way the party makes sure voters show up on Election Day. It tells voters to “Make history again.”

A Democratic source said the ad will be “in heavy rotation” on MSNBC and BET all day. The DNC is spending $3 million on paid advertising on outlets that have predominantly black viewers and listeners, and it’s the largest investment the party has ever spent on such efforts during a midterm election cycle.

The party also went live last night with a new banner Web ad on the BET, MTV and Comedy Central websites.
