‘The Tea Party Goes To Washington’: Rand Paul Inks Book Deal

Rand Paul

The Senator from the tea party is going to become the author from the tea party starting in February 2011. Yesterday, Center Street Publishing — a division of Hachette that produces “wholesome entertainment, helpful encouragement, and books of traditional values” — announced it had inked a deal with Rand Paul, the Republican Sen.-elect from Kentucky, to write a book called “The Tea Party Goes to Washington.”

From Center Street’s release announcing what will surely be next year’s must-have Valentine’s Day gift:

In THE TEA PARTY GOES TO WASHINGTON, Rand Paul presents his plan—and the Tea Party’s platform—to bring the U.S. government more in line with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, to stop spending money the country doesn’t have, to stop borrowing, to balance the budget and reduce the size of the government.

Paul “and those who voted for him want to end the bailouts, the entitlements and the spending,” the publisher writes. In Paul’s book, “he lays out his program to accomplish these goals.”

Other than these basics, the publisher is being fairly tight-lipped about details of Paul’s upcoming book. Center Street wouldn’t tell the Lexington Herald Leader if Paul will have a ghost writer to help him, or how much the book contract is worth. A Paul spokesperson told the paper to “stay tuned for more, it is sure to be exciting.”

Though Paul hasn’t penned a book before, he did a fair amount of writing in college that Democrats tried to use against him on the campaign trail this fall. In a series of letters, op-eds and columns in the daily newspaper at Baylor University, the young Paul showed himself to be a strict libertarian with an almost religious devotion to author Ayn Rand.
