The AP reports that the man responsible for shooting Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) as well as many others at a Giffords constituent event in Tuscon today is Jared Loughner.
“Little information is known immediately about Loughner - such as his background or a possible motive in the attack,” the AP reports.
The wire service said it got the name of the shooter from “U.S. officials” who did not identify themselves because they “were not authorized” to release the name publicly.
