By a vote of 92-4, the Senate today ended the practice of secret holds, in which a senator can anonymously obstruct legislation.
This legislation deals with a “sweeping, almost unparalleled power,” said Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) on the floor right before the vote. “If you want to exercise that extraordinary power, you ought to do it in the sunlight.”
Josiah Ryan of The Hill reports that the four senators who voted against ending it were Rand Paul (R-KY), Mike Lee (R-UT), Jim DeMint (R- SC), and John Ensign (R-NV).
