Roll Call reports: “Republican Senators remain hesitant to publicly wade into the GOP presidential primary, although some Members are less shy than others in revealing whom they intend to support in a candidate field only beginning to take shape.”
Obama’s Day Ahead
President Obama will receive his daily briefing at 9:30 a.m. ET. He will deliver remarks to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce at 11:30 a.m. ET. He will have lunch with Paul Volcker at 12:30 p.m. ET, and meet with Vice President Biden at 2:30 p.m. ET.
Biden’s Day Ahead
Vice President Biden will meet with President Obama at 2:30 p.m. ET, in the Oval Office. he will meet at 5:15 p.m. ET with Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, at the Naval Observatory.
Now Comes Hard Part For Boehner As Run Of GOP Unity Nears End
The Hill reports: “Now comes the hard part for Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio)…Boehner faces a defining moment in his Speakership as he and his lieutenants navigate a trio of major bills: a short-term measure to fund the government, the longer-term budget blueprint, and legislation raising the federal debt ceiling beyond its present $14.3 trillion limit.”

The New York Times reports on the increased security measures at local district meetings for members of Congress, since the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ): “Nearly all the members of Congress who have resumed meeting with the public since the shooting now do so with a police presence — in some cases a substantial one. The result has been a growing formalization of an exchange that has long been a hallmark of popular politics, from the raucous town-hall-style meetings during the health care debate to gentler interactions with individual constituents on a Saturday afternoon.”
GOP Eyes Rules That Firms Say Hurt Jobs
The Washington Post reports: “House Republicans are scrutinizing a wide array of existing and proposed Obama administration regulations in areas as diverse as the environment and Wall Street, and they are taking guidance from industry groups that say the rules threaten jobs. Responding to solicitations from Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), businesses have asked Congress to roll back or preempt more than 150 rules governing their industries, according to documents obtained by The Washington Post.”
