Lawmakers Press Supreme Court For Verdict On Healthcare Law
The Hill reports: “Democratic and Republican lawmakers believe the Supreme Court will ultimately decide the fate of President Obama’s healthcare law, and some of them are already exerting pressure on the justices. The high-stakes lobbying comes as the Senate is scheduled to vote on a healthcare repeal bill Wednesday. That effort is expected to fall short, and the spotlight of the intense debate is expected to pivot back to the judicial branch.”
Obama’s Day Ahead
President Obama and Vice President Biden will receive the presidential daily briefing at 9:30 a.m. ET, and the economic daily briefing at 10 a.m. ET Obama will meet at 11 a.m. ET with senior advisers. At 11:35 a.m. ET, Obama will sign the New START Treaty. He will meet at 2:05 p.m. ET with Sen. John McCain (R-AZ). Obama and Biden will meet at 3:45 p.m. ET with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Biden’s Day Ahead
Vice President Biden will attend President Obama’s morning briefings. He will join Obama for the signing of the New START Treaty at 11:35 a.m. ET. Obama and Biden will meet with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton at 3:45 p.m. ET. In the evening, at 6:30 p.m. ET, the Vice President and his wife Dr. Jill Biden will host a dinner for new senators at the Naval Observatory.
Hillary Clinton Plays Key Role In Dance With Hosni Mubarak
Politico reports: “Confronted with the most acute foreign policy crisis of his administration, President Barack Obama is increasingly relying on Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for her advice and connections - including a 20 year friendship with the family of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak that has drawn fire from human rights advocates.”
Democrats’ Convention Choice Showcases Tension
Roll Call reports: “The decision to hold the 2012 Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., sent a clear message that Barack Obama’s next presidential campaign is likely to be as ambitious as his last…But in choosing Charlotte, the Democrats declined to make a visible stand in Missouri, a swing state that Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) won in 2008 by fewer than 4,000 votes.”
Can North Carolina Deliver Again?
The New York Times reports: “In choosing Charlotte, Mr. Obama rejected bids from Cleveland, Minneapolis and St. Louis. The selection was the White House’s first major strategic decision of the presidential race, and displayed the desire of Democrats to retain some of the states they carried in 2008 for the first time in a generation.”
