Expect progressives to push former Rep. Tom Perriello (D-VA) — who was defeated in 2010 — to run for Sen. Jim Webb’s Senate seat.
A Democratic source close to Perriello tells me “Tom has not made any decisions yet about the future and is keeping his options open.”
Within hours of Webb’s announcement, somebody secured perrielloforsenate.com, and a Draft Perriello page popped up on Facebook.
Perriello’s a liberal Dem who was defeated in a terrible year for Democratic incumbents — particularly junior ones. To win statewide, he’d probably have to count on a strong Obama showing in the state in 2012. Stay tuned.
