Rep. Connie Mack (R-FL) is scheduled to make a “major announcement regarding the U.S. Senate race” tomorrow morning in Florida, and is expected to announce that he will make a bid for Sen. Bill Nelson’s (D) seat.
Mack’s campaign spokesman David James said in a press release today that the announcement will take place tomorrow at 10 AM in Fort Myers, Florida.
Steve Peoples of Roll Call writes:
While he would not reveal what the announcement will be, it is widely believed that the four-term Congressman will announce his Senate candidacy, attempting to follow in the footsteps of his father and namesake. James did not rebut that when asked by Roll Call on Thursday afternoon.
Nelson has recently looked increasingly vulnerable to the Republican field in 2012, and a February Mason-Dixon poll showed him only leading Mack 45% to 40%.
