Georgia Governor Who Asked For Obama’s Birth Certificate Now ‘Focused On Creating Jobs’

Gov. Nathan Deal (R-GA)

Republican Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal, who wrote a letter to President Barack Obama demanding to see his long-form birth certificate, isn’t focused on the “birther” issue these days, according to a spokeswoman.

Deal’s spokeswoman says the governor didn’t have a reaction to the release of Obama’s long-form birth certificate today.

“The governor is focused on creating jobs for Georgians, improving education for our students, has succeeded in preserving one of the most generous post secondary scholarships in the nation, balancing a budget and is in the middle of bill review from his first successful session,” spokeswoman Stephanie Mayfield told TPM in a statement Wednesday. “This is what he is focused on.”

But back in February 2010, then-Rep. Nathan Deal (R-GA) wrote a letter to Obama asking for a copy of the long-form certificate. Here’s now-Governor Deal talking about his letter back in early 2010.

We’re still waiting on responses from most of the other birther-curious lawmakers that TPM reached out to for comment on the President’s long form birth certificate.
