Speaking at a KPMG Global Energy Institute event in Houston on Wednesday, former Vice President Dick Cheney took a moment to comment on what he called the nation’s “horrendous debt problem,” and offer some high praise for House Budget Committee Chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI).
“I worship the ground that Paul Ryan walks on,” Cheney said. “I think he’s an enormously talented individual and he’s trying to do the right thing. And [he] deserves all the support we can provide him. And I hope he doesn’t run for president because that would ruin a good man who’s got a lot of work to do as the chairman of the House Budget Committee.”
Ryan’s push to privatize Medicare as part of a budget plan has become a contentious issue, which came to a head this week with the GOP’s surprise loss in the NY-26 special election.
