FOX Poll: Bachmann Getting Hammered By Perry’s Surge In Polls

FOX News came out with a new poll Thursday evening that confirmed the numbers from other polls showing Texas Gov. Rick Perry shooting to the top of the GOP field in the race for the party’s presidential nomination. Unfortunately for Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), it seems that much of Perry’s success is coming at her loss.

Perry leads with 26 percent of GOP voters, followed by now chief rival Mitt Romney at 18 percent. Bachmann, who had been reaching second place in national polls before the entrance of Perry in the race, was relegated to being the first choice of only 4 percent of Republicans.

The 4 percent was only good for a fifth place tie with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuilani (who is currently not running), businessman Herman Cain, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, whose name was not actually polled but volunteered by respondents. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was third with 8 percent, Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) fourth with 7. The rest of the field finished with between 1 and 3 percent.

The FOX poll only used a sample of 341 GOP voters, so the margin of error was a high 5.5 percent for the large field of candidates. The poll used live telephone interviews and was conducted from August 29th to the 31st.
