CNN: Takeaway From Obama Prayer Breakfast Speech Is He’s Still A Christian

Apparently we’re back to casting doubt on President Obama’s Christian faith.

Obama on Thursday attended the annual National Prayer Breakfast in Washington. It’s a pretty perfunctory event, but Obama did touch on how giving up tax breaks that wealthy and fortunate Americans enjoy coincides with Jesus’ teaching that “for unto whom much is given, much shall be required.”

But before even focusing on the president’s policies, CNN political director Mark Preston weighed in on Obama’s faith. The takeaway, Preston said, is “he emphasized that he is a Christian. There is still doubt out there amongst Americans — amongst some Americans — that he is not Christian. And he emphasized that in that speech.”

Sure, there was media attention on the president’s faith, with a small subset of people insisting the president is a Muslim. But the latest Pew tracking numbers on the issue are from 2010. Here’s Preston’s other takeaway from the speech: “He also married faith and public policy together and he said that people need to take are of each other.”

“Two important things as we head into the November election,” Preston added.

That’s right, we all learned today that President Obama is still a Christian.
