A chilly Inauguration Day began Monday for President Obama and his family with a service at St. John’s Episcopal Church, located across Lafayette Park from the White House.
The President, First Lady Michelle Obama, daughters Malia and Sasha and mother-in-law Marian Robinson arrived together for the service. Vice President Joe Biden and his wife Dr. Jill Biden joined the First Family for the service.
The historic church — nicknamed “The Church of the Presidents” — has attracted every U.S. President since its founding. Its first service was held in October 1816. Franklin D. Roosevelt started the tradition of attending St. John’s services before the Inauguration Day ceremonies.
