Jon Stewart opened his program Tuesday with a bit of local news, taking New York Assemblyman Dov Hikind to task for wearing blackface as part of his basketball player costume during a Purim celebration.
“You know, not that it really matters, but that is some poorly done blackface,” Stewart said. “He doesn’t even look like a basketball player. He looks like a Jew who went on a cruise without his hair products.”
Hikind eventually apologized for the costume. “I repeat, it was not meant to in any way hurt anyone,” Hikind said Monday, according to the AP. “And those that were? I’m sorry. That was not my intention.”
