Jon Stewart on Monday dedicated “The Daily Show” to Pope Benedict’s resignation, in “Holy Quit! How’s It Going With That Popey Changey Thing?”
“Popes can do that?” Stewart said of the Pope’s resignation. “I assumed the papacy was a lifetime commitment, like being in the mob or a correspondent on ‘60 Minutes.’”
The 85-year-old pope cited his advanced age as the chief reason for abdicating. So what’s next for the first pope to retire in nearly 600 years? According to one clip Stewart played, Pope Benedict hopes to read books and pray in his retirement.
“Isn’t that what the pope was doing?” Stewart said. “Sounds to me like the only thing he’s losing in retirement is the waving.”
