It was up to Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) to introduce the new Republican Party to the American people after the State of the Union this week, but Jon Stewart said Wednesday that the Florida senator’s performance was, perhaps, “too caliente.”
The big story out of Rubio’s performance was not the GOP’s policy positions, but his awkward water break. “I gotta say, Obama talked for an hour without so much as a sip,” Stewart said. “He may need a prompter, but at least he doesn’t need an IV bag.” But lost in the hoopla over Rubio’s hydration was the fact that he actually delivered a speech, Stewart said.
“I see the problem, once again, rather than responding to actual Obama, Republicans are stuck responding to the fictional image of Obama that they’ve created, the same boilerplate Republican talking points, just with a better backstory,” Stewart said of Rubio’s actual speech.
