UPDATED: MSNBC's Ed Schultz Calls Radio Host Laura Ingraham A 'Right Wing Slut'

MSNBC anchor Ed Schultz.

Late Update [7:08 pm ET]: MSNBC has suspended Schultz for one week.

MSNBC host Ed Schultz is known for his hyperbolic attacks on Republicans but it looks like he may have crossed the line on his show yesterday by labeling Laura Ingraham a "right wing slut."

"President Obama is going to be visiting Joplin, Mo., on Sunday but you know what they're talking about, like this right-wing slut, what's her name?, Laura Ingraham?" he said on his radio show. "Yeah, she's a talk slut. You see, she was, back in the day, praising President Reagan when he was drinking a beer overseas. But now that Obama's doing it, they're working him over."

Reid To Angle: My 'Penthouse' Is A One-Bedroom On The Second Floor

NV-SEN candidates Sharron Angle (R) and Harry Reid (D)

Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) is now firing back at his Republican opponent Sharron Angle, after she's made a series of attacks on him for living at the Ritz Carlton in Washington. As he points out, Angle often refers to it as a "penthouse" -- when it's actually on the second floor.

From a friendly interview with Ed Schultz on MSNBC:

SCHULTZ: You grew up in a shack.

REID: Well, it...

SCHULTZ: No plumbing, right? Now she's saying that you're a rich man. How do you feel about that?

REID: Yes, as I -- Ed, I live in Searchlight, Nevada. I have a home in Searchlight, Nevada. I stay in Washington, D.C. in a one bedroom apartment and my penthouse is on the second floor, how do you like that? A penthouse on the second floor.

The TPM Poll Average gives Angle a lead of 48.5%-47.4%.

Ed Schultz Slams White House As Afraid Of Fox News (VIDEO)

MSNBC anchor Ed Schultz.

Las Vegas -- MSNBC's Ed Schultz tonight slammed President Obama's White House for its handling of the Shirley Sherrod debacle, suggesting that Obama and his team are afraid of Fox News and don't use progressive media enough.

Speaking to a roaring opening night crowd at Netroots Nation at the Rio casino here, Schultz cursed through a spirited critique of Obama. Schultz pointed to the camera and said he was glad the speech was being recorded and wanted the White House to hear his message. Schultz also leveled insults at conservative Democratic Sens. Blanche Lincoln (AR), Ben Nelson (NE) and Mary Landrieu (LA), along with Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT), who the netroots helped boot from the party in 2006. Schultz said he didn't care if Democratic Senators boycott his show because he doesn't need them for ratings. He also said that MSNBC "did a hell of a job fighting for health care."

Progressives: Punish Lincoln! Sen. Sherrod Brown: Stay Tuned!

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH)

Senate Democrats attempted to reassure riled up progressive pundits today that conservaDems might indeed pay a price next January when the caucus decides who will - and won't - keep their leadership positions.

TPMDC and other news outlets are in attendance at the Progressive Media Summit on Capitol Hill, hosted by the Senate Democrats. Some here, including John Aravosis and MSNBC's Ed Schultz, are treating it as a forum to tell the Senators what they are doing wrong.

Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) told the group he understands frustration that some Democrats "don't have the backbone we wish they had." After the Democrats were asked why the leadership doesn't strip Sen. Blanche Lincoln of her Agriculture Committee chairmanship, Brown chimed in and said that might be coming next year.

Poll: GOPer Hoeven Has Big Leads Over Ed Schultz, Heidi Heitkamp In ND-SEN

MSNBC host Ed Schultz and Gov. John Hoeven (R-ND)

The new Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll of North Dakota finds Republican Gov. John Hoeven way ahead of both possible Democratic candidates in the race to pick up the seat of retiring Democratic Sen. Byron Dorgan.

Hoeven leads liberal talk show host Ed Schultz by 56%-32%, and he leads former state Attorney General Heidi Heitkamp (whom Hoeven previously defeated in the 2000 gubernatorial race) by 55%-34%.

As Kos notes, this is not because of a weakness of these individual candidates, but is because of the weakness of the Democratic Party itself in this red state: "Yet compared to last week's poll with Dorgan, Dems have only lost a few points against Hoeven, suggesting that it's general distaste for the Democrats that's driving down their numbers. Indeed, we asked favorability numbers for the two parties, and the Democratic Party is viewed favorably by just 25 percent of North Dakotans, and just 17 percent of Independents, versus 61 percent disapproval. Republicans, at 39-53, are not exactly popular, but in the battle of lesser evils, certainly in much better shape."

Ed On Ed: 'We're A Long Way From Any Kind Of Decision' On ND-Sen Bid

MSNBC anchor Ed Schultz.

MSNBC's Ed Schultz said tonight on "The Ed Show" he is "a long way from any kind of decision" on whether to make a bid for the U.S. Senate as a Democrat.

"I can't say I'm even considering it right now," Schultz said. "I'm in a different place than politics right now."

His show is less than a year old, and Schultz said "to go from Fargo to 30 Rock is a dream come true for any broadcaster."

Dorgan Says He Would Have Won Reelection (VIDEO)

Sen. Byron Dorgan told MSNBC's Ed Schultz tonight his surprise retirement decision was "no reflection" on the Democratic party and insisted he would have won reelection if he'd decided to stay.

Dorgan (D-ND) said he has served 40 years and now wants to do "some other things in life." He said he would prefer people ask, "Why did he leave so soon, rather than why did he stay so long."

"This gives me the opportunity to do that," he said.

Ed Schultz: North Dakota Dems Have Asked Me To Run For Senate (VIDEO)

MSNBC anchor Ed Schultz.

On MSNBC just now, liberal talk show host Ed Schultz said he was asked by top Democrats in his previous home state of North Dakota to run for the seat of retiring Democratic Sen. Byron Dorgan -- including outreach from Dorgan himself.

"Well last night, when Sen. Dorgan was talking to me, he asked me how old I was, and I went 'uh oh,'" said Schultz.

"I did get a phone call this morning from Merle Boucher, who's the [state] House Democratic leader, and he asked me to consider to run for the United States Senate seat in the state of North Dakota," said Schultz. "I asked him very point blank, 'Is this an official ask?' He said 'Yes, it is.'"

For now at least, Schultz isn't jumping at the opportunity, pointing to all the work he's put into his media career.
