Former Ambassador (and possible 2012 presidential candidate) John Bolton took the stage at CPAC today, and continued his unflinching criticism of President Obama's foreign policy initiatives. Bolton said Obama has handled Egypt the same way he's handled every other foreign policy crisis: he's been "inconsistent, confused, and just plain wrong."
Former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton says that he's still "considering" whether to run for President in 2012, but when it comes to the decision, he's still just talking to people and not taking any major steps for a run: "I'm not like the duck, placid on the top of the water and paddling furiously underneath. I'm really looking at it. It's a hard decision for me."

The wisdom that he brought to the discussion? That opposition leader Mohamed ElBaradei, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate who headed the International Atomic Energy Agency for 12 years, is "a dilettante."

Ambassador John Bolton, rumored to be considering a presidential run in 2012, thinks he could win the Republican nomination if he ran: "Well, I think I could win the Republican nomination if I chose to run, because I do think I'm in the mainstream of the Republican Party."
PERMALINK | COMMENTS | RECOMMEND RECOMMEND (0)An awful lot of potential Republican presidential candidates will be having one of their first public outings soon in Illinois -- where the state GOP will hold a mega-fundraiser to celebrate the 100th birthday of the great Ronald Reagan.
Roll Call reports:
The fundraising event will be held in Chicago on Feb. 5, the day before the late president's birthday. Former Speaker Newt Gingrich (Ga.) will sign copies of one of his books before the dinner, and former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton, Indiana Rep. Mike Pence and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum have confirmed they will attend, according to an invitation to the event. The party also invited Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and South Dakota Sen. John Thune. The 12 Republican Members of the state's 112th Congressional delegation will be special guests.
If you think this celebration will be wild, just wait for April 5, 2051 -- the centennial of Bedtime for Bonzo.
PERMALINK | COMMENTS | RECOMMEND RECOMMEND (0)John Bolton, the former Bush administration Ambassador to the United Nations who has seemingly been testing the waters for a possible presidential candidacy, is now saying that the Senate GOP leadership's unsuccessful fight against the START nuclear arms treaty with Russia was a good thing politically -- even though the treaty was ratified.
Bolton appeared last night on Sean Hannity's Fox News show, with Tucker Carlson sitting in the host seat.
"But let's be clear. I think that this fight was worth it, even though the treaty was ratified," said Bolton, "because I think, people are now well aware of the driven ideology of this administration, to reduce our nuclear capabilities, which I think they now understand will endanger us and our friends and allies going forward."

"Can American cut its defense spending in a meaningful way?" Fox Business asked Bolton.
"I don't think so," he said.

Michael Patrick Leahy, founder of the Nationwide Tea Party Coalition, told TPM that Bolton "shared common values" with the Tea Party Coalition, then "asked us to participate in the project and we were very happy to have him support it."
PERMALINK | COMMENTS | RECOMMEND RECOMMEND (0)Could John Bolton -- the former Bush-era Ambassador to the United Nations and permanent cheerleader for bombing Iran -- run for president? Or does he just long for attention?
During recent appearances on Fox News, Bolton has been asked whether he would run for president. "Well, you know it's a great honor when people ask me that question, and I have been asked that question," Bolton said on Wednesday. "I don't think anybody involved with politics should worry about that until after the elections this fall."
He also said: "I'm not saying no. That's right."
PERMALINK | COMMENTS | RECOMMEND RECOMMEND (0)Former United Nations Ambassador John Bolton told TPMDC in an interview he isn't sure President Obama is fully committed to a strategy in Afghanistan that would destroy the Taliban.
During an interview at the Conservative Political Action Conference Friday Bolton said he thinks Obama is "more concerned with beginning a process of withdrawal in the summer of 2011."
"I fear that's an example of sending at best, a mixed, or more likely, a signal of weakness that our adversaries interpret to our detriment," Bolton said.
