Tea Party Rep. Apparently Spends $200K To 'Feed His Family' (VIDEO)

Rep. John Fleming (R-LA)

Rep. John Fleming (R-LA) told MSNBC's Chris Jansing that President Obama's deficit-reduction plan -- which calls for increased taxes on wealthy Americans -- only "hurts" the economy.

Fleming -- a businessman who owns Subway sandwich shops and is responsible for more than 100 UPS stores across the south -- said that taxing wealthier people hurts job creation. Jansing pointed out that, as the Wall Street Journal estimated, Fleming raked in more than $6 million last year. Chump change, Fleming said!

House Republicans Unprepared For Senate Rejection Of Boehner Debt Limit Plan

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) told his Republican caucus Thursday morning that he doesn't yet have enough committed support to pass his debt limit bill -- a high stakes vote that will take place just hours from the time of this writing.

Most of his members believe he'll get there quickly -- even among the opponents of his bill, it's hard to find anybody who believes with any confidence that Boehner's plan will go down.

Earlier this week, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) -- chair of the conservative Republican Study Committee -- told reporters Boehner lacked the votes to pass his legislation. Today he's not so sure. "[T]hey weren't there at the time, we'll see what happens," he told me.

But if it passes, Republicans will have to grapple with a key question -- one they haven't really considered, and which Boehner hasn't prepared them to answer: What happens when the Senate sends them back a different plan?

LA GOPer: November A Choice Between An Atheist Society And A Christian Nation

Rep. John Fleming (R-LA)

Appearing before the Republican Women of Bossier with Sen. David Vitter (R-LA), Rep. John Fleming (R-LA) cast the November elections as a choice between godlessness and Christianity. He also called bipartisanship impossible.

"We have two competing world views here and there is no way that we can reach across the aisle -- one is going to have to win," Fleming said.

We are either going to go down the socialist road and become like western Europe and create, I guess really a godless society, an atheist society. Or we're going to continue down the other pathway where we believe in freedom of speech, individual liberties and that we remain a Christian nation. So we're going to have to win that battle, we're going to have to solve that argument before we can once again reach across and work together on things.

Fleming contended that the Republicans might take 60 seats in November, and argued that the road to economic recovery is to rescind new banking regulations and make the Bush tax cuts permanent across the board. "We've got to change the way we do things," he said. "We need to restore the Bush tax cuts, or actually make them permanent. We need to cut the capital gains tax, we need to take regulations off the backs of business and allow banks to once again lend. And I got a strong feeling that our economy will snap back very quickly."
