Bad Romance? Tim Pawlenty Talks About His Favorite Lady Gaga Songs (VIDEO)

Tim Pawlenty and Lady Gaga

Tim Pawlenty is reaching out to the youth vote -- and showing how much he knows about Lady Gaga.

During an interview in Iowa, with the Washington-based pop culture blog Glittarazzi, Pawlenty was asked about his favorite musicians, which include the likes of Bruce Springsteen and various country singers. Pawlenty then actually brought up the subject of Lady Gaga. "But I've got a question for you guys?" said Pawlenty. "Are you ready: What's your favorite Lady Gaga song?"

After they listed their favorites, Pawlenty discussed his own, showing off his Gaga knowledge. "Well you know, in terms of the beat, I like 'Bad Romance,'" Pawlenty said. "I gotta say, even though she's a little unusual, 'Born this Way' has got some appeal. Now, she's actually very talented. If you go to the end of the HBO special, the Lady Gaga HBO special, and you watch her sing a cappella, 'Born This Way,' she can sing. She can definitely sing -- she's talented -- and she does it a cappella.

"So, you know, interesting, talented -- a little weird. But you know, if you had to limit your artistic choices to just conservatives, we wouldn't have a lot of choices. You've gotta be willing to tolerate different politics."

Pawlenty: If The Obama Presidency Was A Lady Gaga Song...

Fmr. Gov Tim Pawlenty (R-MN) and Lady Gaga

Former Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R-MN), who is exploring a run for president, has also been exploring something else: awkward pop culture references, in a speech this past weekend to the Iowa Federation of College Republicans.

The Des Moines Register reports:

"I think what the younger voters have figured out is that this is a broken relationship. He made soaring promises and grand expectations. He's broken those promises," he told the crowd of students. "If this was a Lady Gaga song, the relationship between the youth vote and Barack Obama would be 'Bad Romance.'"

Pawlenty, Minnesota's most recent former governor and a potential future presidential hopeful, said the news of the day has been dominated by the tragedy in Japan, issues in the Middle East, and Charlie Sheen.

"We may not in this room have tiger blood like he does," Pawlenty said, referring to the television actor, "but we've got something else in common with him. There's going to be a lot of winning on the Republican side in 2012."

Who knows -- maybe it'll sound better in Pawlenty's next action movie trailer campaign video.

Report: Obama Aides Weigh Bid to Tie GOP To Tea Party
The New York Times reports that White House political advisers are considering ideas to cast the Republican Party as having been taken over by Tea Party extremists: "White House and Congressional Democratic strategists are trying to energize dispirited Democratic voters over the coming six weeks, in hopes of limiting the party's losses and keeping control of the House and Senate. The strategists see openings to exploit after a string of Tea Party successes split Republicans in a number of states, culminating last week with developments that scrambled Senate races in Delaware and Alaska."

White House Denies Effort To Tie GOP To Tea Party
However, Politico reports: The White House is pushing back hard against a New York Times report that the president's political team is considering a national ad campaign that would cast the GOP as taken over by tea party extremists. The story is '100 percent inaccurate,' a White House official told POLITICO. Times Washington bureau chief Dean Baquet counters that the 'piece is accurate.'"
