Former Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN), who lost by a very narrow margin to Democrat Al Franken in the heavily-litigated 2008 Minnesota Senate race, doesn't appear to be done with politics just yet.
In a possible sign that Coleman could still be trying to maintain his profile among the Minnesota GOP grassroots, he has reportedly authored a fundraising letter for a real hero of the GOP base, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN):
Make no mistake about it -- this opposition isn't coming from the Minnesotans she represents in Washington. It's coming from the liberal netroots in places like San Francisco, Manhattan and Vermont. It's coming from the same people who bankrolled Al Franken's race against me and his legal battle to deny honest Minnesotans a fair vote last November.

"Again, I hope the United States will not be the leader for government control of not only just the national institutions, but of non-financial institutions as well," said Bachmann. "We won't be the leader anymore in the world if we dis free-market capitalism."
"Dis capitalism," Cavuto responded. "I like the way you phrase that."

As Minnesota Public Radio reports, the increased fame of the second-term Congresswoman had spurred a Connecticut company, Herobuilders, to manufacture a new posable toy in her image.
This puts Bachmann among the ranks of the company's other comedic offerings, which includes Obama as the Joker, Joe the Plumber, and Sarah Palin in a schoolgirl outfit.
It really is a great likeness. They managed to get her eyes just right.
PERMALINK | COMMENTS (15) | RECOMMEND RECOMMEND (2)Fox News caught up with Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) at the Values Voters Summit, where she praised Fox News and slammed the competition over at MSNBC -- and even coined a new slogan for Bill O'Reilly.
Bachmann couldn't even bring herself to say the competition's name. "Whoever these guys are on MS-- they aren't a factor. The Factor is the factor," said Bachmann, in the midst of an epiphany. "You know, that's it - the Factor is the factor. That's what's important."
She also heaped praise on Bill O'Reilly and Glenn Beck, for being sources of truth: "People vote with their feet, and they love Bill O'Reilly, they love Glenn Beck, they love the shows that are on Fox. That's what matters, because people want to go where they can find truth. They obviously aren't finding truth over on some of these other channels."

PERMALINK | COMMENTS (12) | RECOMMEND RECOMMEND (1)The Politico reports that House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) are worried about the potential damage to the party's reputation from a certain back-bencher: Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN).
This paragraph is buried deep within their latest piece on Boehner's efforts to keep up with the GOP base:
Sources say they [Boehner and Cantor] have been especially wary of the possible damage inflicted on the party's reputation by bomb-throwing Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), who last fall called for an investigation into whether members of Congress are "pro-America or anti-America."
They certainly are in a bind when it comes to Bachmann. On the one hand, the base loves her and she's frequently invited on television. On the other hand, she calls for revolution and warns against the government using Census data to round people up into internment camps. What's a body to do?

PERMALINK | COMMENTS (53) | RECOMMEND RECOMMEND (8)During a House floor speech on Monday night, Rep. Michele Bachmann gave a dire warning: That President Obama has already begun efforts to limit our energy usage from cars and home heating and air conditioning -- and our food consumption is next:
"President Obama said we can't eat as much food as we want and think the rest of the world will be okay about that -- as if that matters to freedom-loving Americans," said Bachmann. "Well, we just heard last week that the Federal Government now under the Obama administration is calling for a re-ordering of America's food supply. What's that going to mean? Now will the White House decide how many calories we consume, or what types of food we consume?"
She spoke to Rep. Steve King (R-IA): "You're from an agriculture State, I'm from an agriculture state. My farmers are very concerned about this."
PERMALINK | COMMENTS (27) | RECOMMEND RECOMMEND (1)At her own local tea party event this past weekend, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) made it clear just how much she supports Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC), in the wake of his "You lie!" outburst during President Obama's speech to Congress.
"And thank God for Joe Wilson. Thank God for Joe Wilson," Bachmann said, to the raucous applause of the crowd. "He looked into the camera -- Joe Wilson is my friend, he's the last person I talked to before I left Washington, DC. The sweetest, most mild-mannered, loving guy you've ever seen, such a huge heart. And he apologized for violating the rules of decorum in the House, and that's right. We don't do that in the House. But Joe didn't back down from his assertion, because Joe was right."

PERMALINK | COMMENTS (5) | RECOMMEND RECOMMEND (0)It turns out Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC) has had a prominent defender among his colleagues, sticking up for his "You lie!" outburst during President Obama's speech to Congress: Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN). In an interview late last week with NewsMax, Bachmann said Wilson "spoke the truth."
"Joe Wilson spoke truth on the floor of the House last evening," Bachmann declared, "when he said -- when he was stating that, his disagreement with the President."
Bachmann also dug in on death panels: "But there's been a confusion about death panels. "Death panels" isn't just about end-of-life counseling. Death panels are the bureaucracies that President Obama is establishing, that will -- where bureaucrats will make the decision on who gets health care, and how much. who will have access to doctors? How quickly? What will the delays be? Because we know, this bill will include rationing."

PERMALINK | COMMENTS (7) | RECOMMEND RECOMMEND (0)Our friends at the Dump Bachmann blog have spotted a fun little quirk in Rep. Michele Bachmann's (R-MN) schedule for this Saturday.
In the early part of the morning, Bachmann will be hosting a town hall on health care. Then in the late morning, she will be proceeding directly to speaking at...a Tea Party.
So first it's a Bachmann town hall, and then a Tea Party. Really, how do you tell the difference?
PERMALINK | COMMENTS (5) | RECOMMEND RECOMMEND (2)Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) finally explained yesterday why Democrats don't want her in office: They're scared she'll become the first female president.
"They want to make sure no women, no woman becomes president before a Democrat woman," Bachmann said, "and so they're doing everything they can to, I think, sabotage women like Sarah Palin, perhaps women like myself, or similarly situated women, to make sure that we don't have a prominent national voice."
Bachmann was speaking on Mike Gallagher's radio show.
Bachmann recently said she would run for president, but only if God told her to.
PERMALINK | COMMENTS (110) | RECOMMEND RECOMMEND (0)Rep. Jim Oberstar (D-MN), the chairman of the House Transportation Committee, has some tough words for a particular member of his state's delegation -- Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann -- the Minnesota Independent reports.
"I don't think God's talking to her anymore," Oberstar said on Tuesday, in response to Bachmann's call for conservative activists to slit their wrists and become blood brothers against President Obama on health care. "I think she's hearing other voices."
The bit about God talking to Bachmann is not a random joke, by the way -- that's how Bachmann said she became a candidate for Congress in 2006, after God called her to run, and she and her husband fasted and prayed for three days to make sure.
PERMALINK | COMMENTS (14) | RECOMMEND RECOMMEND (0)Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) spoke yesterday to the right-wing Independence Institute, the Colorado Independent reports, and she called on conservative to really come together in the fight against President Obama on health care.
"What we have to do today is make a covenant, to slit our wrists, be blood brothers on this thing," said Bachmann. "This will not pass. We will do whatever it takes to make sure this doesn't pass."
The sanguinary rhetoric continued. "Right now, we are looking at reaching down the throat and ripping the guts out of freedom," she said. "And we may never be able to restore it if we don't man up and take this one on."
