Ohio Governor John Kasich (R) had to be feeling pretty good a little over eight months ago when he knocked off incumbent Ted Strickland on his way to being the Buckeye State's chief executive. Now it's the people of Ohio who don't feel that great about him.
Kasich's approval rating registered at a paltry 35% in the latest Quinnipiac poll of Ohio voters, with 50% disapproving of the Governor's performance, directly in line with the current TPM Poll Average. Ohio was one of the major flash points in the fight between newly elected Republican governors and public employee unions over collective bargaining rights, compensation and benefits. Much of the poll shows a public resistance to Kasich's policy in the area, but agreement that public employees should pay more of their health insurance and pension contributions.

Rick Scott's (R) approval rating has sunk to a new low, as nearly six in ten Florida voters now say they disapprove of their chief executive's job performance barely 5 months into his tenure, according to a Quinnipiac poll released Wednesday morning.
Scott was one of the new Republican governor's swept into office last year as anti-incumbent rage thwarted Democrats nationwide. But since his inauguration, Scott has pursued a number of unpopular proposals, capped off by a recently-passed budget he is set to sign this week that voters overwhelmingly dislike by a two to one margin.
In the poll, 57% of registered voters said they're unhappy with how Scott has handled his job as governor, a record high. At the same time, only 29% of voters said they approved of Scott's job performance, making Scott the most unpopular of 10 governors Quinnipiac has surveyed this year.

In the poll, just 30% of Ohio voters said they approved of Kasich's job performance, compared to 46% who said they disapproved. When Quinnipiac polled the state back in January, Kasich also posted a 30% approval rating. But at that time, just 22% of voters disapproved of his job performance, a number that has now more than doubled.

In the poll, health care reform was by far the top answer to two open ended questions that asked respondents to name the best and the worst thing Obama has done as president. Twenty-six percent of respondents said health care was he best thing Obama has done, while 27% said it was the worst thing he's done in office.
No other specific policy or action Obama has taken polled higher than six percent on either question in the survey.
PERMALINK | COMMENTS | RECOMMEND RECOMMEND (0)New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, whose unpolished, tough-talking style has brought him much national attention and made him a viral sensation, is often floated as a potential presidential candidate in 2012. A new Quinnipiac poll out today suggests Christie would face a tough time even in his home state.
According to the poll, a large majority of New Jersey voters don't think their governor would make a good president. Sixty-three percent of respondents said Christie would not be a good commander-in-chief, while only 25% said he would be a good fit for the nation's top job.
What's more, most New Jersey voters don't like the sound of "Vice President Christie" either. Just 32% of respondents said Christie would make a good veep, while 59% said he would not.
Those results come despite another finding in the poll that most voters in the state approve of the job Christie is doing as governor by a 46% to 44% margin. So while Christie's constituents like what he's doing for the Garden State, they're not so sure he'd be a good choice to run the entire country.
